skywatch, dude!

Look at your close-ups again! Every contrail is coming directly from the engines!!!

The twin engine jet -- two contrails. The four engne jet -- four contrails. Get it yet?

Can you enlighten us on whats happening in this pic?

I'm almost positive the one above is what I saw years ago.

or in this one?

and another

Excuse me if these have already been posted.

Conspiracy theorists get so angry with skeptics because we ruin the fun. Chemtrails (if they were true) would be a very serious matter. Contrails that are speculated and discussed as reality can be a good bit of entertainment.

Skeptics, like me, want to believe. We really, really do. What we can’t get past are the obvious signs and indications that lead us in the correct direction. IMO, many CT are so interested or invested in various CTs they can’t step back and really look for the obvious answers.

So I don’t offer the answer in an attempt to ruin anything or spoil the fun or to ‘debunk’ anything.

The first picture: I can’t tell what kind of airframe we are looking at which, is very important. Why? Because if we can identify the type of airframe (Airbus, Boeing, etc) then we can narrow it down to the specific model, i.e. 737, 757, A330, etc.

I don’t know this to be true but, I think (not know) you’re looking at a aircraft venting fuel. Could this be a picture from a flight development program? Possibly. Is this proof of chem trails? Without knowing all of the specifics of the picture, it’s as likely something very benign as something very sinister.

The rest do have a very mundane, boring, although very pretty explanation:

Light refraction. Basically, you have exhaust gas rapidly cooling (the trail). Within that gas liquid (no not “chemicals”) is present in the form of crystals (from the cooling). What you’re seeing is light refracting through that liquid.

Ever seen a rainbow? You’re seeing the same principle at work. Light refracting, making pretty rainbow like hues.

It’s not sexy, it’s not exciting, it’s not nearly as entertaining but, there it is.

EDIT: the "broken link" looking contrail is explained (correctly) as thus: temperatures vary in the atmosphere. What you're seeing is a plane flying at a constant altitude, in a constant direction while flying through varying temperatures.

As it flies through areas that have the right humidity and temperature to allow contrails to form, they do. When the plane enters an area where the humidity or temperature is different (usually caused by convection) the contrails stop, or give the appearance of being "turned off".

Again, there it is. Not sexy. Not unseen before. This happens all the time. Maybe you, personally, don't see it every day but the phenomena I describe is natural, normal and occurs thousands of times each day.

LD, not sure what kind of airplane that is in the first picture.

Four engines....NOT a B747, since I see winglets. The US Military fly KC-135s, converted B707s....but the engines look wrong....so I'm going for an A340. (since I have never seen a KC-135 with winglets)

Now, I don't know if Airbus has Military contracts with other Nations, and if they produce an A340 for those Militaries.

What is being 'vented'?? I don't know. Jet fuel (Jet-A) will atomize when 'dumped', and look very similar to that picture.

The B767 (not related to this picture) has a fuel-dump capacity, of course....the nozzles are mounted on the trailing-edge of the wing, outboard of the flaps, inboard of the outboard ailerons....

Your obviously a nice person and very thoughtful.

That's a strawman argument used to get past the lack of facts to support the chem trail assertion. Basically, I am ‘narrow-minded’ if I don’t by into chem trails on faith alone. I say faith alone because after years and years of these assertions the chem trail crowd has exactly zero evidence.

My mind is open. I look at things from any angle presented. What I won’t do is believe for the sake of having an 'open mind'. My mind is open. I want to believe! I really, really do.

However, I require more than (this doesn't apply to anyone in particular, I am not referencing anyone) paranoid thinking, far, far-out conjecture and altered pictures.

This topic is one of those things that baffles me, personally. The answers are out there and have been explained numerous times.

The answer is boring, but correct.

LD, second picture.....spark plugs were mis-firing!!

No, seriously....contrails form because of the hot engine exhaust, and how it affects the water vapor in the air as it passes through.

If you understand the concept of 'Relative Humidity', and that air can harbor water vapor, in varying amounts, based on temperature and pressure.....and, if you realize that the Earth's atmosphere is in constant motion, always mixing....updrafts, downdrafts.....oh! AND, upper air winds.....there is a term, 'Mountain Wave'. This can occur at low levels, but usually manifests at high altitudes. Winds flow over a terrestrial obstruction, such as a mountain range...and they 'undulate', like waves....

Look up 'standing lenticular' clouds. Go, search your Encyclopedia!

Last pictures.....refraction of sunlight, as most moisture trails tend to do, when the angle is just right.

Camera settings? F stops? Shutter speeds? You provide no information, so the photos are pretty.....but they are very expainable.

First picture is a US Navy E-6B TACAMO. Used to send messages to submarines, and fly the Battle Staff around on. It's dumping fuel to get the landing weight down. The fuel dump on this particular plane is located inboard near the wing roots, instead of out on the wings.

The pods out on the wingtips are HF antennas. The Navy put them under the wingtips instead of on top of them. The problem with this is that it's adding a lot of stress to the wings by pulling down on the wingtips.

I'm chiming in again and looked up 'standing lenticular' clouds a few minutes ago online and found that these are 'middle clouds' ranging between 6,500 to 20,000 feet.

Personally, I may have seen a few of these 'lenticular' clouds hovering over our hills below the 4,500ft. height, which is 'too low' for such formations. And the second photograph showing the 'wavy clouds' do appear too low to be considered 'high altitude' clouds.

piky, read the Wiki article again. They put the 'lenticularis' in the 'class B', or middle altitude level....but when you read the link you see they mention they are 'high altitude' clouds.

In fact, both statements are correct. They form downrange of irregular surface features, such as mountains, when sufficient moisture is present in the air.

Go study, go learn.....meteorolgy....aviation.....anything!!!

You cannot host a picture from your local drive to the net, you must upload it onto a picture server then link from there. You can use your Upload area of ATS (in memcenter), or a hosting site such as Photobucket.

I’m back to respond rather late due to being somewhat disinterested with debates lately. Anyway, see? This is what happens when there’s too much information overload. I did goof. Good catch, WW.

Are you kidding me? I don’t have all the time in the world to clutter my brain with material that other experts should be able to present in an easy to understand format (such as some sort of visual aide to compare side by side with the differences between normal contrails and nefarious chemtrails) for us la[z]y people, who end up trudging along the numerous pages from this thread alone and getting confused along the way.

I feel it's not fair to discount the efforts of the 'chemtrail' supporters. For I too have taken lots of photos of these aerial anomalies. And unfortunately, I don't have the means to go up into the atmosphere each and every time these 'contrails' form and gather random samples for later analysis by independent 'auditors' and presentation for public scrutiny in order to support whatever I happen see over head.

I'm new, can i have a turn?

For the non believers in chemtrails. The Russians admitted they were spraying.

Yes, the relatively common practice of cloud seeding ended in an unfortunate yet hilarious example of how sometimes we shouldn’t mess with the weather. The Russians have been using cloud seeding as a way to prevent rainy weather during important national holidays. On June 12th, the Russian Air Force sent up 12 planes carrying silver iodide, liquid nitrogen and cement powder to seed clouds above Moscow and empty the skies of moisture.

“A pack of cement used in creating … good weather in the capital region … failed to pulverize completely at high altitude and fell on the roof of a house, making a hole about 80-100 cm (2.5-3 ft),” police in Naro-Fominsk told agency RIA-Novosti. Weather specialists said this is the first time in 20 years that this has occurred. The homeowner was not injured, but their pride was. They refused a $2,100 offer from the Air Force to fix the damage, but the home owner declined and stated she would sue for damages and compensation of moral suffering instead.

and in the US...

Soon after a recent episode he saw particles in the air. "We'd see it drop to the ground in a haze," added Nichols. He then noticed the material collecting on the ground.

"This is water and stuff that I collected in bowls. I had it sitting out in my backyard in my dad's pick-up truck," said Nichols as he handed us a mason jar in the KSLA News 12 parking lot back in September after driving down from Arkansas.

KSLA News 12 had the sample tested at a lab. The results: A high level of barium, 6.8 parts per million, (ppm). That's more than three times the toxic level set by the Environmental Protection Agency, or EPA.

A high level of barium, 6.8 parts per million........hummm no chems here....

I didn't believe it at first either, but when you see it happening week in and week out it makes you wonder.

I also noticed no mention of this in the other chemtrail thread. It was a bit more out dated then this one, so I didn't want to be the noob to resurrect it. I read all 5 pages and think there is a bit of dis-information going on in that one. I also didn't see any mention of the bag of cement that the ruskies ADMITTED to putting through the guys roof.

I don't think the Airlines were grounded for this but I think the debate is still going strong. That thread didn't prove anything other then that (respectfully) weathermen are not the most informed people. Around here they get the weather wrong so much they might as well be throwing darts at the weather map. (gulf coast, USA) As I've emailed them about on more then 1 occasion....

Sorry but IMHO Chemtrails unresolved.....
