Iraq in secret weapons deal

www.news.com.au

THE Iraqi Government which receives generous US military aid has secretly negotiated an $US833 million ($894 million) arms deal with Serbia in an apparent bid to circumvent anti-corruption provisions that accompany such deals with the United States.

Where exactly di Iraq raise the funds for this slightly unnerving
news?

Are they not still embargoed?
QUOTE
Critics of the deal also complained that the arms agreement thwarted the standardization of the Iraqi Army’s hodgepodge of war matériel, which includes firearms from the United States, China, the Balkans, Pakistan and Russia; 150 types of land vehicles; and a United Nations panoply of aircraft.
UNQUOTE.. New York Times.

All seems a little strange to me.

I don't know about any secret arms deal, but when it comes to money, Iraq has plenty of it. They have revenue from oil but have been stashing it away while our tax dollars are spent on reconstruction of their country. It is news like this that does not surprise me. The next most profitable thing to waging war is selling the arms to wage it.

Staggering figures Dollar wise !!!

But after all this, are we ( and I say that as an Aussie with our troops on the ground) going to stand back and allow them to re-arm without some sort of accountability?

Damn war is looking more and more pointless.

How many souls lost on all sides again?

Cheers
