I would like to know what kind of setups the ATS SETI team members are running, what kind/speed of CPU, how much RAM, what operating system, connected via broadband/dialup, and so on. It will be interesting to see what kind of resources we are throwing at the project. I predict that it will be awesome!

The SETI suite I run consists of:
14 Intel Celeron 2GHz w/ 256MB RAM
6 Intel 1.8GHz Pentium4M w/256 MB
2 Intel 2.4GHz Pentium4 w/256MB
4 AMD Athlon XP 2400+ w/512MB
All running Windows XP, 2 instances of SETI command-line, and connected to the Internet via a T1 line.

I look forward to your responses.

Hi Spectre!!

Thanx for the details of all your awesome "SETI-crunching" suite of machines!!
I imagine there's no one in the team - at the moment!! - who can match the sheer number of machines you have running the program!!

My machines are

1 P4 2Ghz with 256 MbRAM - takes about 6 hours to complete one WU.

1 P4 2.6Ghz with 512 MbRAM - takes about 4 hours to complete one WU.

Cosequently, I return around 10 WU's per day on behalf of the ATS SETI@home team.

Both machines use Win XP Home as the O/S, and I run the SETI@home client v3.08 on both. This is set to "run constantly" rather than as a screensaver.

Connection is via 600kbs cable modem.

I use SETI Monitor to cache both machines in case of server down time at SETI. I also run SETI Spy and SETI Stats. All of these useful add-ons help complete the SETI experience for me!!

I hope that helps Spectre - any others please??

I too run a P4 2.6Ghz with 512 MbRAM - my average time is 3 hr 54 min 08.3 sec per WU . this average is from a mixture of WU that have taken up to 8 hours when I have been playing one of my various RPG games, to 6 minutes for my fastest WU which must have been corrupt because it had a peak in it of 308.43!
I too use SETImonitor to cache WUs , I've also got SETI@home mapview installed but I don't think I've got it set up properly because none of my units show up on it. one day I'll get around to figuring it out.

Spectre, no wonder you're at the top of the heap
Impresive.

At home I run a 2.6ghz with 1 gig ram on XP connected to a 2.5M DSL line.

At work I have a Athlon 600 with 512 ram on 98 and a Dell Inspiron notebook 1ghz with 128 ram on 2000 both the work comuters are connected to a T1 line.

I'm running the command line version of seti along with the seti spy program.

Hi pantha!!

Long time, no chat!!

Have you tried Distant Suns SETI version ??

It's a very useful planetarium - and shows *where* your present WU is located so you can go and have a look at it!!

1) Intel P4 2.4GHz, 256mb RAM, Win XP pro, DSL, using S@H windows version, can do WU in 6 hours

2) 2nd copy of S@H windows version installed on a USB flash drive for use on the many university computers I use.

The university computers I use are:

-Intel P4 1.8GHz, 512mb RAM, Win XP Pro
or
-Intel P4 2.8GHz, 512mb RAM, Win XP Pro

all connected to the university's network with a 30Mbps internet connection.

-P4 @ 3.06 GHZ
-1 GB Ram
-Windows XP
-3mb download/256k upload cable connection

The key elements. I tried running it on my laptop, but I don't want to risk doing anything to it leaving it on for long periods of time.

Edit: Spectre, might I ask where you have 26 computers stored?
You have your own computer lab..

P4 2.8Ghz
512mb RAM

Work unit time on this computer is around 4 hours I believe, used to also have it setup on our wireless laptop which usually took about a whole day for one work unit, but took it off that computer for resources...connection is cable modem.

I knew this was going to be impressive. So far, the people who responded total roughly about 132GHz worth of computing power!

pyxsul: Yes, I do have a computer lab of sorts. I do networking and systems administration for my company. Most of the computers I am using are laptops that would normally be in storage or have some hardware problems that keep them out of service (like broken LCDs). The hardest part is keeping the room cool, but it now shares the AC for our server room. If I can annex the room next door this weekend, I am going to add about 12 more machine and try to get us into the top 1000 teams by the time this current project ends.

I'll take a photo of the room and post it this weekend.

Thanks for the reponses, all.

Another *12* machines?!!

PLEASE take a photo of the "SETI monster" Spectre - that's *got* to be worth archiving!!

And we are getting very close to 1000th place now!! Now at 1087th place - and estimated 19 days to 1000th place by SETI@work!

1000th place = CNET.com "The source for computers and technology."
51 members
5875 WU's "lead" on ATS SETI@home team
19.4 days to "catch them"!!

this weekend I'll also be able to add a
Celeron 750MHz w/128Mb reg ram
and possibly:
Intel P3 XEON 1.2GHz
2Gb RAM (if I can get the SCSI hard drive working...)

Even though Publius >clobbered< me I'm still going to add some more machines this weekend and take a photo.
If nothing else it'll make me feel better.

This really is exciting knowing that we are going to be at the top of the heap, more or less, when all the numbers come in.
