Haiphong (city in Vietnam) reports enemy aircraft destroyed Vinh (another vietnamese city) and DRV ships at Hon Me. The DRV "task force" of Swatow T 146 and attached vessels T-130 and T-131 ordered to re-enforce.

This report is dated 8/5/1964 (right after the Gulf of Tonkin incident).

In the weeks immediately following the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the most important SIGINT role was providing defensive information to US air strikes.

This message was probably sent because a similar request in the previous message Readiness Bravo Lantern Report Nr. 16 the ship Swatow T-142 was unable to rendezvous with two other ships and requested another ship be sent. That communication occurred on Aug. 5th, 1964, which I believe was after the US air strike and that these other ships were damaged.

This document is one of several readiness reports of communications from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, in which the DRV attacked US Naval vessels on Aug. 2nd, 1964.
