Haiphong (city in Vietnam) reports enemy aircraft destroyed Vinh (another vietnamese city) and DRV ships at Hon Me. The DRV "task force" of Swatow
T 146 and attached vessels T-130 and T-131 ordered to re-enforce.
This report is dated 8/5/1964 (right after the Gulf of Tonkin incident).
In the weeks immediately following the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the most important SIGINT role was providing defensive information to US air
strikes.
