Her sign read, "If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration."
So much for free speech.

Friends of ALIPAC:
This story is emerging from Athens Texas where 13 year old Melanie Bowers was choked and had her face slammed into a brick wall for bringing in a class assignment that read "If you love your nation, stop illegal immigration"
She was surrounded by a mob of Latino students that either were illegal aliens, in illegal alien families, or supportive of illegal immigration and attacked.
The attackers also threatened to drag her into the bathroom, rape her, and stab her to death.
If you are relying on the Associated Press out of Dallas, TX to feed this news to you across the nation, they describe the incident as a "scuffle" where "Verbal insults" were used.
ALIPAC will be demanding that the school suspends all students involved in this attack, that local police file charges against all involved in the attack, and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement determine the legal status of the assailants and their parental guardians in order to enforce immigration laws applicable to any involved.
This is the United States of America. This is not Mexico. In our nation, we do not use terror tactics to suppress free speech and violate the civil rights of American citizens by attacking children as a mob!

Athens Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Fred Hayes said Tuesday three students have been suspended in connection to the alleged assault of an eighth-grader last week.
Melanie Bowers, 13, told school officials she was swarmed by 21 students and assaulted after she brought a poster to school declaring, “If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration.” She brought the poster to school for a U.S. History class project. Students were assigned the task of creating a poster expressing a message of political activism
“The night before she had this due, she started telling me about this assignment,” Bowers said. “I looked at her and said, ‘This is a bad idea. This is going to go south real quick.”’
Bowers said he is holding his daughter out of school for a week until attention surrounding the scuffle calms down. Mrs. Bowers said she and her husband are also still concerned about several threatening signs she said she has been told were found around the school. The signs are threatening toward her daughter, she said.
Hayes said school officials are continuing to investigate to see if others were involved in the scuffle.
ATHENS, Texas (AP) - An East Texas girl who made an anti-illegal immigration sign for a U.S. history class says she was beaten by other students.
Her sign said: "If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration."
The father of 13-year-old Melanie Bowers of Athens says he's keeping her out of classes until probably next week until the situation is resolved.
As a class project, students made "protest signs" about past and current issues.
Melanie Bowers on March 31st took her sign to school.
J.R. Bowers says his eighth-grade daughter on Friday was attacked in a hallway. She suffered scrapes and bruises and later sought medical attention.
Her sign was torn up.
Police are reviewing security video from Athens Middle School.
Superintendent Fred Hayes says the investigation continues.
Hayes says what school officials ought to do look at is if it's current issue -- they probably don't need a protest poster made on that topic.

Dear A.I.S.D. Community:
You may have heard that an incident happened last Friday at Athens Middle School pertaining to a school project about political protests. After class, an altercation between some students occurred in the hallway. This issue is being taken very seriously and those students who were responsible for the disturbance are being disciplined.
Currently the A.I.S.D. administration is investigating this isolated incident and is working with the district's police department. Also during this investigation, the administration is reviewing parent notification and incident reporting policy and procedures to insure all appropriate parties are contacted in a timely manner.
As always, a safe and conducive learning environment for all students is a top priority

False Report Charge For Girl In Athens School Attack
New developments today in the case of a supposed beating of a student from Athens ISD.
13 year old Melanie Bowers is having charges filed against her by Athens ISD today through the Henderson County District Attorney's office for filing a false report, said Athens ISD officials today.
Bowers had claimed that she was beaten and threatened by a group of students at Athens ISD last Friday for creating a protest sign saying, "If you love our nation, stop illegal immigration."
After the incident, administrators reviewed videotapes of the incident - which instead of showing students beating her, instead showed Bowers scratching herself on her arm. Some students reportedly threw her project into the trash, but no physical attacks or threats were substantiated.
Bowers' parents have reportedly apologized to school administrators for their daughter and Bowers' father is agreeing with the charges against her.
KLTV 7 News will have a video exclusive of the tape from Athens ISD tonight on KLTV 7 News at 5:00, 6:00, and 10:00 pm.
