I remember trying to find out what Alternative 3 was about before, I've downloaded the video but won't be able to watch it until after work.. Can someone please tell me what it's about?

It's a long and uninteresting video made up to look like a documentary. The problem: the actors suck, so the undercover agent and the astronaut just come out looking like washed up drugged out soft porn actors.

The Viking probes both landed in 1976, before this hoax video. The landscape today hasn't changes much since then.

right but... the video of the supposive "mars landing" is it just me or did it look like the actual terrain of mars.. according to the actual pictures?

I forget what the canister is exactly, but it was ejected off the lander after landing. Perhaps some one else knows more of the details. I know i read about it before, but it has slipped my mind.

I too would like to know some more information. Has anyone ever done any research on this video, checked out the names and people if they really did exist? Was there a "brain drain"?
If this was debunked dont you think there would be a "making of video" for being one of the most controversial videos ever made? Why has it been hidden and just forgotten about?

This was a drama produced by Anglia Television, the UK ITV contractor for the East of England, and broadcast on the network back in 1977. It was a drama, not a documentary!

Strange to see that programme again... I actually saw it as a kid and was convinced it was real despite my mum telling me it was fake... (but I was only 7 years old)

Seeing it now I feel so dumb. The date in the end credits is 1st April and the cast list shows that the people being interviewed are played by actors...

DOH!

After the first 5 minutes I only continued to watch out of nostalgia, but now I feel like a complete idiot for sticking with it.

I'd like to see a good copy of this video. It's possible that Anglia would sell an archive copy privately (for about �30GBP for a VHS copy) but I can't imagine that it would be commercially released.
