Why would you want to be a moderator anyways? you don't even get paid right? I'd rather be free to discuss topics than act like the internet police and miss in all the fun..unless I get paid 20 an hour?

Actually, I'm pretty good with it. I believe that everything happens for a reason. I am fine either way. Life always closes one door and opens another for me. Good will come.
And has in small doses. But that is another thread for another day as well.

The rewards of modertaing on this site may not be monetary, but the info and knowledge to be gained from working here is priceless. I also use this site alot, free of charge, so I have ZERO problems putting in time here to help out and will continue to do so for as long as they want me. My patience level has improved drasticly and I believe I have ATS to thank for that. The benefits of working here far outway cons.

Well, as weird as this may sound, thanks!
Didn't mean to scare you, just wanted to get peoples attention so I could tell them how cool they are. Everyone needs a pat on the back sometime. You guys are making me even more proud with each and every response. ATS Rocks!

You got the point across Klev. No worries. Just don't wanna lose ya. I consider ATS my home, and the members and Mods family. To lose one I think highly of, hurts, and I don't like going through that. To some this may be just a message board on the net, but I see and feel the real people behind the avatars.

Kleverone, you Rock.

Thanks, me too! ElecticUncleSam made it for me. MIB (Mod in Black) I might do a song to that one day

I think of the mods as just responsible ATS citizens that take additional efforts to keep total anarchy and running gun battles from breaking out in their neighborhood.

While I applaude their efforts, I do not feel I have the patience or keyboard restraint to emulate them.

Please keep mentoring us noobs.

PS I think the new avatar is more Blues Brother than MIB

Except the 'Super Moderators' of course... (peace be with them)

I can assure you super mods aren't infallible either, but I suspect you're kidding about that.

All mods have a responsibility to enforce the terms & conditions, but I definitely know the feeling klev's talking about, because I often feel that way too.

Sure, it's nice to be able to take action when something goes wrong, but as a moderator, I've really come to appreciate just how important simply being a member really is to me.

Anyone who remembers my behavior from the "old days" knows I wasn't exactly shy about sharing my opinions, sometimes (okay, often) rather rudely and regrettably so. Now I actually have to behave myself, because moderators certainly shouldn't be setting bad examples in the forums. :shk:

So along with the job comes a degree of restraint that isn't (and frankly shouldn't be, in my opinion) expected of non-moderators, and that can be a pain now and then.

On the other hand, I know it has helped to make me not only a better member, but also a better person, because part of being a mod is doing my best to be fair and to try to see all sides of a situation.

My conscience wouldn't permit anything less -- and yes, mods have those too.

Anyway, if no one brought anything away from all this other than the fact that mods are people too, that we do have opinions but try not to let them influence our work, and that we really do care about ATS and our fellow members, I could be happy with that.

Because seriously, our membership is the finest on the Internet and never ceases to amaze me, and that's a "perk" I get to enjoy every time I log in.

BINGO. I've said all along that we are members first and mods only when we have to be. Some have said that ATS is their home, couldn't agree more. Nice friends and family we have here.

Aw you moved? What about AAC? He's gonna miss you buddy.

With such a massive site as this, if we didn't have mods, wow...I'm sure the FBI would have shut us down by now.

There'd be drug references, pornography, derogatory slurs, etc etc.

The great members here, along with the mods/supermods/admins keep this place shipshape and I think a round of applause is needed for all of us.

ATS is amazing and I don't know where we'd all be without it.

Thank you for the great community called abovetopsecret

I often employ many forms of humor and all known forms of sarcasm.

I was kidding
Although the super mods are super smart

And by that you mean..everything outside of enforcing the ToC stuff? Well I am definetly glad you guys still post content like all us members. If you guys didn't I wouldn't want any more mods!!

Aye, the Majic has the fire, we understand!
The power works for good and evil

Most don't.

Ahh interesting bit right there. Where is the source of that added pressure? From the community, site-admins, other mods, err..?

I imagine you meant the community at large? I agree with you on that... I think I have been pretty good at being 'fair' in that sense?.. i hope.

On the other hand, I know it has helped to make me not only a better member, but also a better person,.

You know, I really feel the same. I can honestly say I would be a different man today if I had never found ATS. And I think I like this version more

My conscience wouldn't permit anything less -- and yes, mods have those too.

Bah! I am gonna Deny Ignorance on that one! hehe.

I myself am a regular forum junkie. I am a regular on many forums...ATS is simply amazing

**I hope this elaborate reply doesn't give the mods the impression I am 'saying what they want to hear' cuz I aints. I'm speaking from the heart baby

Hey Klev! Great post and the message came a cross loud and clear. To add to your comment in the post i am actually replying to, regarding rewards not being monetary and knowledge gained is priceless- i have to say i am with you. OK i know this is your thread BUT while doing archiving i have been able to read a LOT of docs and i echo - the knowledge gained is priceless. yeah, i get "paid" with points but the reason i do it is for the knowledge!! Everything can be taken from us but knowledge. Knowledge is power!!

Anyways, to reply in terms of the OP, to be honest, i get one with almost everyone and I also get one with "Mods and i hope the "3 Amigos". The fact of the matter is that i do not even notice the "Forum Moderator" badge or "Super Moderator" badge. I notice the people!!

I hate labeling people and prefer to communicate on the same level - and do. I believe, too, that we are part of a great community at ATS and i intend staying part of ATS.

We all need to really ignore the badges and concentrate on the people!!

Ok time to stop - i hear the violins starting LOL

I absolutely believe the same. I have made lots of good friends and one that calls me "Big bro Sean" lol

I have come to "know" many of the members (NO division of mods against members - ALL members). I have communicated with a LOT of members and I have come to respect most. However, ok, this may seem wrong to some but some members have deserved respect and didn't have to earn it, from me, purely because they are consistent and have manners and are friendly. If someone makes it a point in their day to "P" someone off they have it coming - especially if it goes against the T&C and shouldn't blame any member but themselves when they are warned or banned. The Mods i know are fair and yes i have had my share of warnings and i have learned from it. We are all human and make mistakes by design lol and even knowing the T&C i have made mistakes. But we get to a point where we actually do not need to think about it because the T&C becomes part of our nature and we live by it on ATS (and beyond).

I completly agree! I treat mods as regular members, as they usually chime in just like a regular. I treat them with respect, and will never bad mouth them. If they crack down on something in a thread, and I try to add something, I try my best to adhere to said cracking. I dont single them out or treat them different, I just try to treat them normal! ^_^

kleverone, you'll always be a member to me.
But if you change your mind and decide to stop being a mod, I can show you the ropes.
