Heralding a shift in US Military focus, top generals from the U.S. military are making a tour of Africa. Showing special interest in countries with terror links and oil. Is this the next step in The War on Terror, or another step in securing oil?

The Miami Herald
DAKAR, Senegal - Top U.S. generals are touching down across Africa in unusual back-to-back trips, U.S. European Command confirmed Tuesday, part of a change in military planning as U.S. interest grows in African terror links and African oil.

The U.S. commanders are proposing a shift in the United States military. They would like to see the U.S. shift its focus from the Cold War Europe, to the oil rich countries of Africa. West Africa supplies the United States with 15 percent of its oil, and that figure is expected to grow to 25 percent by 2015. The U.S. is also interested in countries that have links to terrorism and al-Qaida.
Changes to U.S. military operations are waiting approval from Washington, but this falls right in line with President Bushs War on Terror. Also noted is the emphasis on countries with oil. Whats obvious is that the U.S. is working to ensure its future oil supply from this region, just as it has done recently in the Middle East.

This move is just another step in the worldwide oil game that is taking currently taking place. We are not alone in this game. Japan is closing a deal with Iran for its oil fields while China complains about not having exclusive access to Russians newly planned oil pipeline. A brief look at daily news headlines reveals the main players. Currently the U.S. is the worlds largest consumer of oil. Japan is the second largest consumer, followed by China; however, China is set to pass Japan in oil consumption this year. Saudi Arabia, followed by Russia, are the main exporters of oil in the world. Hopefully, oil grabs will continue to be peaceful negotiations between nations.
