Oil as both a natural and national resource

Topic started on 5-4-2008 @ 12:44 PM by photobug

Why is it that the oil companies should profit from oil being produced on Government land that is technically owned by all of us. Since oil is a nessesity in todays life and everyone benfits from it or needs it in one way or another it becomes a national resource to be used by all. Since most of the oil produced by the United States comes from land leased by the oil companies from the united states why does it not become a feasability to basically socialize the oil industry. If the Oil comes from lands Owned by all of us why should the oil not be available to all of us at cost. Whay can not the Government take over the oil industry and simply provide it as a resource to the people at cost?

Does this not make any sense?

Oil is a product of nature. Just like the air, water, land, and sunshine.

For a run-for-profit corporation to have control over it, and dictate its distribution and price over the planet is as criminal as building a giant umbrella over your city, and charging its residents to receive sunshine.

Sure, the people who pull the stuff up from the ground and deliver it to you need to get paid. But all "profits" of this business are humanity's birthright, not the property of wealthy elites.

This is the lifeblood of commerce and civilization. Denial of its fruit is to deny a population the ability to develop commerce or civilization.

IT BELONGS TO ALL OF US, just like rain, earth, and sunshine.
