Is it just me, or does anyone else ever feel the need to use chat language like...
lol, lmao, Rofl, or even Roflmao, in social situations, instead of really laughing?

I sometimes catch myself writing it on paper too, is this normal?

Does anyone else think of doing this?

Just a couple links to some abbreviations...

www.uscash.net...

www.chatdefinitions.com...

I have found myself making the same insinuations at least w/ my kids. The other day we were cleaning up the back yard and I was saying you work on this sector, and they said you watch too much stargate! I replied LOL!

no chat talk... ever...

My wife and I will sometimes repeat movie lines to answer one another...

one of my favorites is

"Thank ya Nice Lady"...

ATS points for the first person to tell me what movie that's from and you have to describe the scene, he says it twice...

Yeah, I use those abbreviations as little as I can.

It isn't so hard to press a few extra buttons every now and then.

I'm pretty sure I know the movie but, not the scene!
Was it a cop that said it?

Hahahaha!!!

Smokey and the Bandit!

My favorite is: "Nobody...NOBODY makes Sheriff Buford T. Justice look like a possum's pecker"

Well, I don't really use them, unless I laugh!
What do you type when laughing in chat, anything?

"IDN" means "I do need". That's what I tell my sister when she's on her way over and I need a fountain coke. "IDDN" means she better hurry up because I'm thirsty.

I dunno I usually just give out a bunch of "Hahs".

The more hahs the harder I laugh.

Though if I'm in chat, I guess ATS chat? I don't know of anything else that could be used for chat. But when I'm in that, or MSN, "lol" works just fine for me. It's easy to say, and instead of typing a bunch of "hahs", I can just type "lol". Everyone uses that one, and I like it because it doesn't give away my insanity.

I think that internet chat, has filtered its way into some aspects of my regular life...

I sometimes finding myself with the urge to say LOL when someone says something really funny... Its kind of irritating, because I know that if I said that to my dad he'd be like "What the heck are you talking about? What does that even mean?" And I can imagine the funny looks from other interneter's if I ever said that to someone who grew up on MSN or whatever... funny stuff... LOL.

lol!

Alright I've been dying to ask.....

When you pronounce "LOL" out loud, what do you say?

Do you say it one-word, or do you spell out the letters?

I go with the one-word pronounciation. Lol.

It's a sentence of its own. =D

Plus I find screaming at the top of your lungs, "OWNED" works up a bunch of hysterical laughs in situations where someone is seriously left in awe.

LOL...I think I would just say each individual letter.. "L-O-L"...If i said Laugh out Loud, everyone would stare...it'd be awkard...and embarrassing...

Lmao sounds alot better than lol, if your saying the whole word!

If I was to use Rofl, I would pronounce it Raful, instead of saying the whole thing!

It's kinda long!

(I have an exclamation point addiction everyone! I'm not yelling!...)

Or you know I could just banish every chat abbreviation there ever was and will be.

Then what would you do?
