It's ridicules what's going on in Iraq!
The US military uses its Defense Energy Support Center to buy the fuel for all the service branches. It buys the fuel, then sets the prices for it.
The U.S. military, through its Defense Energy Support Center, buys fuel on the open market, paying from $1.99 a gallon to as much as $5.30 a gallon under contracts with private and government-owned oil companies. The center then sets a fixed rate for troops, currently $3.51 a gallon for diesel, $3.15 for gasoline, $3.04 for jet fuel and $13.61 for avgas, a high-octane fuel used mostly in unmanned aerial vehicles.
Now, according to Wikipedia, the average tax on a gallon of gas in the US is around 50 cents. Is the government taxing itself for selling itself fuel?
Other countries in this area prices are faaarrr lower than what the US military is paying over there!
(Price info. from Wikipedia's "Average gasoline prices around the world")
Saudi Arabia - 42 cents per gallon (p/g)
Kuwait - 78 cents p/g
Iran - 33 cents p/g
Gas is CHEAP in this part of the world!
Why is it sooo expensive for our military in this area to fill THEIR tanks?
WHY are we not getting fuel for free from Iraqi government? They are the ones that say that they still want us there! And they have plenty of oil!
Or another simple fix, have all vehicles that can drive around in the towns go to local gas stations and fill up, gas is cheap in this part of the world. The US taxpayers will be saving millions of dollars a day and it would help the Iraqi economy to buy the fuel from local gas stations.
Somebody's got their hand in the cookie jar, there's no reason why the US military should be paying that much for fuel over there!
