Just ran across this very interesting article:

"Putin juggernaut sweeps away all in its path"
Link

Excerpt:

"Mr Putin's supporters dismiss claims that his huge lead is a result of media manipulation. "The President has taken it upon himself to put the country in order," said Yury Borodin, 65, a pensioner who heads a team of 26 unpaid volunteers at the public information centre of Mr Putin's campaign in Moscow. "There is stability. Taxes are collected. Pensions and wages are paid. The state is in control of regions that were a law unto themselves five years ago."

Mr Putin's critics say that his consolidation of power has been achieved by installing a clique of former secret services agents and military men in the Kremlin."

Is it possible Putin wants full control (military?) because of the Iran scenario and is flexing his muscles to the world?

And just after that bomb...

Putin is paving the way for the next president and that shall be Victor Zubkov, and after a 4 year vacation Putin will be back to run for another term.

Sounds like business as usual to me.

Russian President Vladimir Putin fired the entirety of his government today. He has appointed deputy minister Viktor Khristenko as Prime Minister to replace the ousted Mikhail Kasyanov.

the Viktor K. guy is who Putin wants as PrimeMinister...ok, i agree,

but the word is that Putin has his eye on another Deputy PrimeMinister
named Sergi Ivanov to become the new President...

remember that Putin has maneuvered the post of Russia's 'President' into a
Supreme Execuitive....
(modeled like the Bush-Cheney remaking of the U.S. Presidential office)

the position of PM in Russia is only ceremonial.
the President is, CEO, Command in Chief, holds the Keys/Codes of nuclear armageddon,,,& decrees his own Execuitive Orders (just like Bush)

'''on 12 February 2007, Sergei quit his position as Defense Minister
to serve as First Deputy Prime Minister...[he's in Putin's inner circle of elites]'''

It's because you are replying to an OP 3 years old. St. Udio is replying to the OP about a reshuffle in 2004

Wake up folks, I think this thread was accidently bumped, because there are news from Kremelin, but this OP is old news.

The current news on the appointment of the nomination of Viktor Zubkov, can be found as follows:

oops, i should have said "concur"

as in it is an accepted & understood Fact !

ADD EDIT:

i/m actually addressing the recent 2007 shakeup, not the dated Russian election cycle shakeup...

see this link: news.yahoo.com...

the story deals with the surprise pro, otion of Viktor Zubkov as the new P.M.

instead of the widely expected promotion of Sergei Ivanov to that office.
I still say that Sergei Ivanov will be endorsed by Putin for the Presidency

he's more of a like minded clone of Putin than Zubkov is

I hope people realise that they are replying to a thread from 2004!

I guess a search can sometimes end up in confusion when history repeats itself.
