Title: 2/G11/VHN/R64:041143ZAug.

Subject: Sigint, Readiness, Bravo Report Imminent plans of attack against Desoto Mission

Document Summary: Imminnent plans of DVR Naval action possibly against the Desoto.

Haipong informed vessel T142 (Swatow class) to make ready for Military operations

the night of 04 August.

The sister ship, T146 has also recieved similar orders.

Message exchanges indicate that all efforts are being made to include T333 in this operation

as soon as additional OIl/fuel can be obtained for that vessel.

Archivists Notes: Good condition, however pages 2-3 are blank.

This document is one of several readiness reports of activity by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) after the Gulf of Tonkin Incident, in which the DRV attacked US Naval vessels.

This report shows that there may have been plans of another attack on Aug. 4th, 1964 against US Naval vessels after the first incident on the 2nd. It was later determined that the second attack on the 4th did not happen and this particular message was given as support that it did. This could be an example of how Intelligence can be manipulated to give support for an agenda.
