British troops withdrawal from Iraq delayed

news.sky.com

Britain will not be bringing home troops from Iraq because of a massive surge in violence in the country, the Government has confirmed.

Defence Secretary Des Browne has told the Commons that he is postponing the drawdown of troops from the base at Basra airfield, which was scheduled to begin this spring.

I thought that things were getting better over there? That was what we were told by Brown and Bush.

I thought Brown was going to bring the troops home when he became PM, that was what we were told.

Will this mean that the US will follow suit? Have forces in the US been told they would be coming home anytime soon?

This will be a huge kick in the morale nuts for troops expecting to come home this spring. I wonder if we'll see a surge of people leaving the forces now, theres only so much messing about someone will take.

I still say we should have compulsory national service for the children of those in power, would be interesting to see how long wars go on for then.
