Acidtastic, I use this site intensively (not that the intensity matters, of course), but have noticed no increase in adware.
I use Grisoft for AV protection, Cloudmark for email scanning, and Spybot Search & Destroy (can't recommend it enough) against malware. I do NOT use
Microsoft's in-built firewalls or any of its AV stuff (and I am not going to be apologetic about it).
And yet, I never get any viruses or adware of the nasty kind. (I DO often get the congratulatory "no immediate threats were found" message from
Spybot. ; )
Periodically, I take my hard disk for a spin to PC Pitstop, and occasionally I check it with Housecall and some other online scanners, just to be
extra sure. (Because I do not want to encumber my disk with all kinds of "protection" that might end up bringing the PC to a grinding halt - like it
happened six years ago, when I made the huge mistake of using Norton AVG...  Never more!)
I think you may find the products above - all (except Cloudmark) are free of charge, by the way - useful, too.
