The Goblin Man of Norway

Topic started on 29-3-2008 @ 12:44 AM by sweetalker

Ok.
Confusing to say the least.
With this, curious me wonders if anyone out there has either heard anything of, or been involved in the making of;

-The goblin man of Norway-

From one of Norways biggest newspapers, Dagbladet i just read this;

"It`s a mechanical humanoid, that seems to be thousands, if not hundred of thousands of years old; says a person in what Microsoft and the makers of coming xbox360 game "To human", claim is a genuine documentary about the Goblin man of Norway.

Link to clip from Documentary
-Just press the play indicator on that site- Didn`t get the direct link to the vid.

As a resident of Scandinavia, I have never ever heard of this Goblin-man from Norway. Have you?

I`m probably not as stupid as I think..
Because 99% of me is convinced this is another one of these advertising-campains to hype a new game, kinda like Shadow of Colossus a couple years back.
Yet, Microsoft claim the idea for the game is based on the "docu about the G.M.O.N
And not vice versa..

But that is the most irritating part. They make a claim about a subject that would spark the interest of millions. C`mon. Who isn`t curious about goblins

So for a week or two, thousands out of that 1 million, will not have realized that it is a hoax/faux. (Like i did with the Shadow of Colossus skeletal remains ) And thus create a legend, we later AGAIN, will have to debunk

I would agree with you and say its viral marketing. The only cryptid I could find info about in Norway was a sea serpent, "Selma".

Im from Denmark, and been to Norway several times, but yet, never heard of it either.

And that MS representative really sparks my bull*-o-meter.

Edit: Well, according to the article, they've talked to a professor in norwegian mythology, and he says he's never heard of it either. On top of that, the entire article doesn't seem to really flesh it out wether this is a real myth, or something made up... Hmmm.

Hey I was just watching that too and thought it looked pretty funny that a documentary was so artsy. AND found it alittle odd that they didn't show anything.

So I went to www.norwegianfilmcommittee.org and the only thing they have produced was this documentary. Seemed fake to me. so I dropped there address into www.who.is and found this out.

Since the IP is located in canada and Silicon Knights is in St catherins canada, one can only assume that it is a marketing campain.

I wish it was true though.

I guess you've already astablished that "the Goblin man of Norway" is not even a myth, but a marketing campain by Microsoft!
I just thought I'd confirm that nobody in Norway has even heard of it, or the norwegian film committee!
If this had happened in the US, Microsoft would be sooooo sued!

I hope this put the period/dot to the thread!
