Shoot, if you're into lyrics, nothing beats this musician's lyrics, see if you can recognize them, they're the type of lyrics when you're in a solemn mood:

Gonna find a way to cure this loneliness
Yeah I'll find a way to cure the pain
If I said that you're my friend
And our love would never end
How long before I had your trust again
I opened up the doors when it was cold outside
Hopin' that you'd find your own way in
But how can I protect you
Or try not to neglect you
When you won't take the love I have to give
I bought me an illusion
An I put it on the wall
I let it fill my head with dreams
And I had to have them all
But oh the taste is never so sweet
As what you'd believe it is -
well I guess it never is
It's these prejudiced illusions
that pump the blood
To the heart of the biz

You know I never thought
that it could take so long
You know I never knew how to be strong
Yeah, I let you shape me
But it feels as though you raped me
'Cause you climbed inside my world
And in my songs
So now I've closed the door
to keep the cold outside
Seems somehow I've found the will to live
But how can I forget you
or try not to reject you
When we both know it takes time to forgive

Sweetness is a virtue
and you lost your virtue long ago
You know I'd like to hurt you
but my conscience always tells me no
You could sell your body on the street
to anyone whom you might meet
Who'd love to try and get inside
and bust your innocence open wide

'Cause my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
No

Gonna have some fun with my frustrations
Gonna watch the big screen in my head
I'd rather take a detour
'cause this road ain't gettin' clearer
Your train of thought has cut me off again
Better tame that boy 'cause he's a wild one
Better tame that boy for he's a man
Sweetheart don't make me laugh
you's gettin' too big for your pants
And I's think maybe you should
cut out while you can
You can use your illusion -
Let it take you where it may
We live and learn
and then sometimes it's best to walk away
Me I'm just here hangin' on
It's my only place to stay at least
For now anyway
I've worked too hard for my illusions
Just to throw them all away

I'm taking time quiet consolation
In passing by this love that's passed away
I know it's never easy -
so why should you believe me
When I've always got so many things to say
Calling off the dogs a simple choice is made
'Cause playful hearts
can sometimes be enraged
You know I tried to wake you -
I mean how long could it take you
To open up your eyes and turn the page

Kindness is a treasure -
and it's one towards me you've seldom shown
So I'd say it for a good measure
To all the ones like you I've known
Ya know I'd like to shave your head
And all my friends could paint it red
'Cause love to me's a two way street
An all I really want is peace

But my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
No

Affection is a blessing
Can you find it in your sordid heart
I tried to keep this thing ta-gether
But the tremor tore my pad apart
Yeah I know it's hard to face
When all we've worked for's gone to waste
But you're such a stupid woman
and I'm such a stupid man
But love like time's got its own plans

'Cause my baby's got a locomotive
My baby's gone off the track
My baby's got a locomotive
Got ta peel the bitch off my back
I know it looks like I'm insane
Take a closer look I'm not to blame
Yeah
If love is blind I guess I'll buy myself a cane

Love's so strange

The song is Locomotive and it's written by Axl Rose - Guns N' Roses. I still think he is one of the best lyricist (and musician) to have ever come around. Slash helped with that song too. I already posted previously what my thoughts were on GNR in this thread. All of GNR in my opinion were, and still are, some of the most talented mofo's ever. Too bad Axl can't get past his prima donna crap.

Axl and Slash also wrote one of the best songs about suicide, it's called Coma. Just read these lyrics. Really deep. After this I won't post any more GNR lyrics because they are really long.

Hey you caught me in a coma
And I don't think I wanna
Ever come back to this... world again
Kinda like it in a coma
'Cause no one's ever gonna
Oh, make me come back to this... world again
Now I feel as if I'm floating away
I can't feel all the pressure
and I like it this way
But my body's callin'
My body's callin'
Won't ya come back to this... world again
Suspended deep in a sea of black
I've got the light at the end
I've got the bones on the mast
Well, I've gone sailin', I've gone sailin'
I could leave so easily
While friends are calling back to me
I said they're
They're leaving it all up to me
When all I needed was clarity
An someone to tell me
what the # is going on
Goddamn it!

Slippin' farther an farther away
It's a miricle how long we can stay
In a world our minds created
In a world that's full of #

Help me
Help me
Help me
Help me
Bastard

Please understand me
I'm climbin' through the wreckage
of all my twisted dreams
But this cheap investigation just can't
stifle all my screams
And I'm waitin' at the crossroads
Waiting for you
Waiting for you
Where are you?

No one's gonna bother me anymore
No one's gonna mess with my head no more
I can't understand what all the fightin's for
But it's so nice here down off the shore
I wish you could see this
'cause there's nothing to see
It's peaceful here and it's fine with me
Not like the world where I used to live
I never really wanted to live

Zap him again
Zap the son of a bitch again

Ya live your life like it's a coma
So won't you tell me why we'd wanna
With all the reasons you give it's
It's kinda hard to believe
But who am I to tell you that I've seen
Any reason why you should stay
Maybe we'd be better off without you anyway

You got a one way ticket
On your last chance ride
Gotta one way ticket
To your suicide
Gotta one way ticket
An there's no way out alive
An all this crass communication
That has left you in the cold
Isn't much for consolation
When you feel so weak and old
But if home is where the heart is
Then there's stories to be told
No you don't need a doctor
No one else can heal your soul

Got your mind in submission
Got your life on the line
But nobody pulled the trigger
They just stepped aside
They be down by the water
While you watch 'em waving goodbye
They be callin' in the morning
They be hangin' on the phone
They be waiting for an answer
But you know nobody's home
And when the bell's stopped ringing
It was nobody's fault but your own
There were always ample warnings
There were always subtle signs
And you would have seen it comin'
But we gave you too much time
And when you said that no one's listening
Why'd your best friend drop a dime
Sometimes we get so tired of waiting
For a way to spend our time
An "It's so easy" to be social
"It's so easy" to be cool
Yeah it's easy to be hungry
When you ain't got # to lose
And I wish that I could help you
With what you hope to find
But I'm still out here waiting
Watching reruns of my life
When you reach the point of breaking
Know it's gonna take some time
To heal the broken memories
That another man would need
Just to survive

There is still a bit of good music being made, like Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon, Winston and the Telescreen... um... can't think of much else i like these days, actually. Mostly I listen to Beatles, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC...

Oh, and Coldplay. They're overplayed these days, but they are talented and I like (most) of their music.

The Beatles are intersting. They changed the face of music in the world. And they were multi-talented.
IMO, they all sold out. Well, except not Lennon, buth they killed him. George, Paul and Ringo aren't cranking anything out today. George did the bit with the Traveling Wilburys, and that was good.

I really can't say they are as great as people say they are. I think others are more talented. Like David Bowie. Mick Jagger/Rolling stones, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton.

if someones overplayed, then change the station.

i get angry when people suddenly dont like a band because they become popular or theyre overplayed.

sheesh im madly in love with brandtson, benton falls, anything form deep elm records, miles davis, the early november, the mountain goats, randy, cody chesnutt, and a bunch of other you may not have ever heard of.

but whos not to say i dont love maroon 5 (their entire album "songs about jane" is to be celebrated, the song with the breathing is kinda dorky though, too much breathing, but still good)

or the goo goo dolls (slide has TOO MANY meaning for me on SO MANY LEVELS. i lvoe this band)

or outkast (i had a teacer named ms jackson once, we'd always sing that song to her)

or alanis morisette (holy crap, there is nothing i can say besides mmmbah! good...)

the populatiry of the music isnot something to be thought of.

if its overplayed, change the station.
why are you listening to the radio anyway?

support an artist youve never heard of- buy a random cd.

You notice how everyone never really latched onto Lennons music until he got shot, why? Because he wasnt that good? It really is the secret key to life, get shot and everyone will embellish you. Look at JFK, Lincoln, Lennon, Biggie and any other rapper besides Tupac, anyways, everyone knew John was the reason the Beatles broke up, him and his crazy wife who even cashed in on his death, so in conclusion. John Lennon secretly sucks.

youre never famous until youre dead.

Incubus has put out a song protesting Bush, and it's one of the best I've heard in decades.

Megalomaniac:

I hear you on the radio
You permeate my screen, its' unkind but
If I met you in a scissor fight
I'd cut off both your wings on principle alone
On principle alone

Hey megalomaniac
You're no Jesus
Yeah, you're no (V) Elvis
Wash your hands clean of yourself baby
And just step down, step down, step down

If I were your appendages
I'd hold open your eyes
So you would see
That all of us are heaven sent
There was never meant to be only one
To be only one

.....And so on.

i thought this was a thread about the music industry and the beauty/demise of music today and yesterday (and maybe tomorrow)

not just a lyric posting session...because, no one is reading the lyrics at all.

no one besides whoever posted them

Scat, the thread is where has all the music gone and I think that the posts are showing music that was then and now. If you don't want to read the lyrics, don't. But there is some good stuff here.

I have a this problem with the Indie thing. It seems that to some that if it's mainsteam then it's lessened. Trust me you will get more grains of sand than gold nuggets with Indie, been that way since the 70's. And if it is Indie give them a couple of years, then it will be mainsteam. A band I'm liking right now, called Three Days Grace, is mainstream and they remind me of Deep Purple, 70's mainstream. Check it out.

i posted something on mainstream music earlier, look up a few posts for it, im too lazy to retype it all

whats funny to me is, mainstream music from decades ago is now the cool indie "screw mainstream" way to right? but the fact is, youre still listening to mainstreammusic. its just a few years old. wheni point this out to people they end up not liking their good old classic rock.

personally i love classic rock (steve miller band for life) and have no problem with "mainstream" music. mainstream is a myth anyway. it doesnt exist.

I think the thing is with mainstream has something to do with success. I think success can harm creativity and originality. It takes a very special kind of artisst to become successful and stay true to their message.
