Organic Matter on the Planet Saturn

LOS ANGELES - An international spacecraft that dove through geysers erupting from the surface of a Saturn moon found organic matter, one of many ingredients that make an environment hospitable to extraterrestrial life, scientists said Wednesday.

This is really cool. It appears that researchers have discovered material that would make life possible on Saturn, pointing to the possibilities of ET's being able to survive there.

This is a very cool find!

It is, though my excitement is tempered somewhat by the fact that such matter has been found in the atmospheres of several of the planets in the solar system already - see link for Martian example here

More recently, and perhaps more excitingly, scientists recently discovered the first exo-planetary evidence - see link here.

The extent to which organic compounds pervade space is certainly significant - but it needs to be remembered that gases like methane are not in themselves evidence of life - simply of the possibility that life could exist in those environments.

Put simply, just because you can smell a fart on Saturn doesn't mean someone's farted.
