Good article on how to fight a health insurance denial.

Before an insurance denial, try to prevent one. Though the jargon is thick and the terms confusing, reviewing your health insurance plan to determine whether a procedure is covered or not can save you the headache of trying to be retroactively paid. If you are going in for a surgery or a pre-scheduled procedure, oftentimes your doctor’s office will obtain pre-authorization for you—but don’t leave it up to them. Call your insurance office or follow up with your doctor’s office to make sure you have insurance approval, and ask to have the approval information sent to you in writing.

Alot of us has been thru probably one of these in a lifetime. Just thought I would share the info.

My guess is that insurance companies know they cannot legally deny certain treatments, but they will deny said treatments anyway to cut costs. Many people will not put up a fight and will accept the insurance company's denial. It may behoove you to fight for your rights and insist on treatments. Be a pest. "Write letters, insist on talking to a live person and not some voicemail. Make sure anybody you talk to has the authority to authorize the treatment you need, and if they do not have the authority, insist on talking to somebody who does have the authority. If the treatment you need happens to be particularly expensive, it might be worth it to get a lawyer.
