Punk has a long, varied and complicated history and fortunately bands like Rancid are trying their best to maintain that tradition.

HA Rancid maintaining a tradition, I may not have been around for long but I can spot bull#. Tim Armstrong wouldn't let Leftover Crack (who were on his lable hellcat at the time) name an album "# world trade" or "shoot the kids at school" based on the fact those names would offend people.....how punk rock of him.

What about Lars flogging his "punk pants" for 70USD each, now thats what i call D.I.Y.

Not to mention that Indestructible was just a bad album.

Love the Ramones, sex pistols, black flag, clash, dead kennedys and so forth but I can not believe no one has mentioned the misfits. Definitely a very influential band. I have heard more misfit covers than any other punk band out there.

Not BS, just a difference of opinion.
That is one of the beauty's of music my friend.

No-ones perfect, don't know about the instances you mentioned, just listen to the music nowadays.
Have you got anymore details / links, hard to form any opinion on the few details you posted.

A couple of points for consideration:
Music alone will not change the world.
It was never an old school punk thing not to make any money out of it. (That came much later with Crass etc)
