I'm also greatly interested in the background behind those 29 other instances where police assistance was required, and the level of service that was provided.

The story says some of the calls were due to barking dogs while most of the calls we due to a disturbace between Heather and her mom.

We ALWAYS have been.
Sadly this is nothing new, although maybe new to some.

I have read threads where people seem completely astounded at the fact that police abuse their power to extreme extents at times. Perhaps the only difference is that it has become more obvious in certain communities that is was not before.

While i dont think it is funny at all and is quite tragic, When i read the title i just cracked up laughing.

But yes this is quite sad to see that call for help was made and the suicidal person in need of help was shot dead. Quite disturbing.

I'm guessing the first mistake this cop made was pulling his gun out and trying to use it to control someone that WANTS to die.

This is what non-lethal weapons are for.. maybe he just expected to see an old lady speeding and needed to save it for the trip home.

I would like to know if he pulled his weapon and preceded to give orders to drop the blade, if she even still had it. Also if he thought that one threw or not.

The officer ordered her repeatedly to drop the blade and stop advancing. But the woman would not stop, and the officer opened fire

That sounds like he had his gun drawn already as he gave orders.

If the officer was informed that the teen was suicidal, obviously shes not going to take orders and go to jail over an easier and less painful death then she intended for herself.

I am almost inclined to think the cataclysmic prophecy of 2012 is really about cops abusing their power, and killing the innocents. I think there is a chance by december of 2012 the entire US nation will break out into war: the Police versus the Unarmed.

Seriously, what the hell is going on

The bad-cop threads are just as common as those 2012 threads used to be!!

Did the cops decide at their last managerial meeting that they wanted to see how many times they could show up on ATS in a months time

Bah! This is madness and it aint Sparta!

I wokeup and read this. DISGUSTING. OUTRAGED. I hope that woman gets SOME MAD MONEY whatever they have from the state. This is police gone wrong. I would have taken the gun from the officer and killed him acting like everything was ok. Noway he can get away with that, thats murder!

I believe there is no way she had 3 different razors, thats a damn lie. This also shows people that cops can plant whatever they want on anyone such as weed if they can make up lies like that. The person calls 911 and gets to see somone they knew/or/loved shot. There is a lot of stuff going on in Newyork ............

Guess the next explanation we will hear is about flash backs to 9-11, box cutters and how deadly a weapons they can be.

Time for this officer to look for a new line of work. This is one step up from the killing of the woman in the wheelchair via taser.

In cities.... Sticky Foam or Styrofire should be used to subdue suspects...

I mean you spray someone down with sticky foam, not even you are gonna get em without being stuck... lol let alone them being able to move.

After watching the video, all I can say is that it was MURDER, plain and simple. If you haven't watched the video, you really should. The mother describes how the blade was put down, the daughter did nothing threatening towards others and the cop then shot her not once, but THREE times. He shot her from a distance, she went down, and then the cop walks up to her and standing right by the girl, shot her two more times. Right there with her mother watching and the girl's son in another room heard it and came out and saw his mother with bullet holes in her.

How the mother kept herself from going after this jerk is beyond me. I lived in Sonoma County, where Rohnert Park is, for many years. One time, late at night, they pulled me over for a broken tail light (which wasn't broken). I'd had two glasses of wine, but it had been quite awhile since I had. THe cop threatened to charge me with DUI, but decided to park my car in someone's driveway, right in front of a sign that said "No parking, private driveway" and told me to walk home, which was 13 miles away. It was 2:00 a.m. on a Sat. nite and freezing. I could have been murdered, raped or anything. Fortunately, some very nice young men stopped and gave me a ride home.
It was a horrifying experience and for no reason. I'm never rude to any cop because they scare me. The idiot even called for back-up. There were many stupid experiences like this with a number of my friends. Sonoma police are known for their sexual harassment, discrimination, etc. The whole dept needs to be investigated and gotten rid of, IMO.
I'm also told by a friend who still lives there, that the county has gotten rid of ALL mental health treatment centers. When someone is 5150'd (out of control), they are sent to the jail, not a hospital or mental health center. I'm so glad I moved from there.
This is beyond appalling. This girl was murdered.

Rule number one in a non-overdose suicide situation: DO NOT CALL 9-1-1!

It's generally not a good idea to call the cops in most situations anyway. But when someone is suicidal, bringing the Man into it all too often results in suicide-by-cop.

The reported facts of this story are at this point conflicting and hearsay. All I know is if you move towards a cop with a weapon, any weapon, expect to get shot. However when called to a psych situation, those dispatched damn well had better be armed with less-than-lethal options. Failure on this point is pure negligence.

Fair to say if someone "WALKS" toward you with a blade , and YOU have a gun you've kinda got the upper hand . Training is the issue here , why not take a step back and distance himself from the "THREAT" instead of steaming in head first unloading into an obviously disturbed WOMAN

I once thought the public needed guns to protect themselves from the criminals. Now the police are the criminals we need to protect ourselves from.

In this day and age, if we need help we just need to help ourselves. No point in asking the government for the help.

Bumr055

I'd like to know the truth to this story as well. Perhaps one day we will. BTW, the "teen" that was killed was 31 years old at the time of this shooting.
Me bad, if I fail to report that as well.

Lucid Lunacy

Maybe the ATS Mods should set up a cop of the month topic.
Cops = 2012. Good point. Looks like we're one step closer to hell than we think.

hi there every one! i actually live out here where this took place. this is not the first time that something like this happened with this force. a few years ago, an asian man in the same city had a fight ( non violent) with another person late at night. he was out in the street, in front of his house, drunk and yelling and swinging a broomstick, getting out his frustrations. 4 or six police arrived, they told him to drop the stick and they shot him dead. the police said that he was weilding (note use of word) like a martial artist. his wife, who watched all this, wanted to help her husband after being shot. she is registered nurse. police would not let her. as to the broom stick "wielding" he had no training, just waving it around. that many cops could disarm a very drunk man?

in the city of sebastopol, close by, two cops were just exonerated of shooting a slightly built 15 year old who had a knife. this kid also had a history of mental problems. they shot him many times. two trained police could not use mace or batons to disarm a slightly built teen? what the hell?

happy easter every one!

I have a severe problem with this "explanation". For one officers recieve stun guns, CAPSTUN, billy clubs, and hand to hand disarmament training. I know because we had several officers in my martial arts class, and one of the instructors taught police officers all over las vegas. This could have been resolved without the use of a gun. PERIOD.

This is sad, unfortunately I know first hand about a few of these particular cops (My Home Town) they are power hungry cops and nothing more. Yes there are a few cool ones but the ones with an attitude over shadow the others.

We actualy have RPPD (from the article), CHP which all that have pulled me over for thier trumped up reasons have a chip on thier shoulders, then the Sonoma County Sheriff who just down the road from me was serving a warrant (the guy was gonna be deported) guy pulls a gun gets shot in the head that wasnt quite enough so they shot him a few more times then called in the helicopter to save him.

My point we have so many cops in a small town its crazy.
