Far-fetched theory, indeed. The second half of your post. Your theory faisl to include the essential nugget of how would Obama and his campaign would have the pull to know what Spitzer was up to in his private life. Doesn't seem to promising that Obama would have insiders working for Spitzer. Especially when his superdelegate vote was pledged to Hillary. And, why would other Democrats help to unseat a front-runner as strong as Hillary? Your theory doesn't make much sense.

If you read the disclaimer I put in front of my 'theory', you'll note that it wasn't put forward as a serious attempt to explain things. Personally, I don't think there's a conspiracy here at all...just a politician who got busted.

Comparing scandals is always fun.

Senator Craig was pressured to resign, and in fact announced his intention to do so, then changed his mind. Given that he was the butt of at least two weeks worth of headlines, late-night T.V. mockery, and a formal censure by the Senate Ethics committee, it's hard to say that he got off lightly.

Senator Vitter took a lot of flak, but wasn't asked to resign...don't ask me why, because I can't tell you. I am fairly certain that he might as well have resigned, since his career is pretty well over and done.

Governor Spitzer resigned. He wasn't forced to, nor was he impeached. He will have to do some serious 'evasive action' in a courtroom to avoid jail time, but it's not because he frequented an establishment of prostitution. It's because (unlike Senator Vitter) he transported prostitutes across state lines, which violates a federal statute.

Let's not forget Bob Packwood, who, being a Republican, managed to avoid any consequences at all from his own sexual misconduct. (If you heard a PING, that was my sarcasm detector imploding).

Frankly, there doesn't seem to be a political bias when it comes to sexual misconduct, nor does one party seem to have a much better chance of getting away with it. Speaking as Congress's titular employer, I think we should give them *all* their two-week notice and hire new ones...but that's just me.

What I really find hillarious about this whole situation is that with all this new legislation and extra security and secret investigations we have since 9/11 the only criminals we've managed to catch are our own politicians. They are all corrupt and this is pretty much how government works these days.

It's not just that Spitzer liked prostitutes, these prostitutes are used as blackmail material against other politicians. They are used innocently enough as escorts for these fat cats at certain functions and parties but the real dirty stuff goes on under surveillance where the tapes are kept for later use.

It's secrets that keep these crooks in line. Hell, one of the first things an initiate does in the Skull and Bones is tell everyone his complete sexual history. This is how government works, if you have a vice it will be exploited.

On another note, I don't know if anyone of you are really following NY politics but the now governer Paterson is being dragged through the mud over anything they can find. If you ask me it's all to detract attention away from the deeper implications of the Spitzer debacle.

Spitzer was not "assassinated". He made bad choices and knowingly broke laws.

anytime a dem gov or sen takes a nose dive it is a good day in america. the fewer of these lib cowards we have at the top the better. just as many gop scum have went down in flames over sex scandles......but you dems do it so well.

Messing up with facts and critical thinking? You disclaim something before you make the claim? Tell me, how does that make sense? It's like Eliot Spitzer renouncing prostitution and then supporting prostitution with the expectation that he wouldn't get a public reaction.

If you are not confident in your theory, don't post it. Otherwise, if you are confident enough to post then expect replies.

After reviewing the complete scenario...I also suspect a higher setup. And that setup is what I believe the OP is looking for. IMHO no one could care less of what he did or not, but who on higher levels he upset the most.

This is exactly what my thoughts were when I saw the video.It boils down to who has the most to gain from his downfall.

I'm sure there are plenty of blind eyes turned in scandals such as this one,thus my "ratted out " term.If he wasn't upsetting the boat and had his friends,would this scandal have come to light?

Like I said a few posts back,I'm more interested in the deeper story.

I appreciate everyone's input.

He was outed by a Republican who frequented the same sex people.

He said money transfers and the rest is history.

Make friends on both sides if you can so sex outing is impossible.

The Republican was most likely assassinated by Spitzer.

He just returned the favor.

Roger Stone claims he gave the FBI the hat tip in November 2007. Chris Matthews accused him of threatening Eliot Spitzers father over the phone in August 2007. Why this came about? Stone lost his job because of the threatening phone calls and spent three months trying to find dirt on him. Then he was confident enough to say "Eliot Spitzer will not serve out his term as governor of the state of New York," Dec. 6 on Michael Smerconish's radio talk show on Philadelphia's 1210 WPHT.

Stone got his lucky break going to the same sex club.

Chris Matthews did us a favor pumping up dirt on Stone, then
none of this would have happened.

A prediction, how cool is that.

ED: This Stone fellow may have called Spitzer's farther to help in the
trooper gate problems his son was in and gets falsely accused of
threats. What a bunch of no goods. The Trooper helper just got
replaced as the first act by the new Governor.
