Breach of Obamas Passport files leads to firing at State Department

www.msnbc.msn.com

Two contract employees of the State Department were fired and a third person was disciplined for accessing passport records of Sen. Barack Obama "without a need to do so," State Department officials confirmed to NBC News.

The three people who had access to Obama's passport records were contract employees of the department's Bureau of Consular Affairs, NBC News has learned. The unauthorized activity concerning Obama's passport information occurred in January.

MSNBC is reporting that there have been violations of Barack Obamas passport files: Two employee/ contractors have been fired and a third is under investigation:

State department is holding a press conference call soon.

Since this is breaking and is potentially very huge, please post any updated information.

Sounds like some serious political dirty tricks....and the web WILL get larger.

Here is additional info from Politico.com on Obamas statement:

Nobody's reported the story that's now leading Drudge, so the details remain unclear, but here's Obama spokesman Bill Burton's statement.

This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an Administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years. Our government’s duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes. This is a serious matter that merits a complete investigation, and we demand to know who looked at Senator Obama’s passport file, for what purpose, and why it took so long for them to reveal this security breach.

Ill bet you my life savings that the person caught red handed was paid off by hilary.

On a more serious note, this just highlights the dangers of centralised databases. Its one thing to collect info on criminals, but when you do it to law abiding citizens such as Obama, it becomes dangerous.

The state would like you to believe that your information is safe with them, but consider who "they" are; ordinary people like you and me who happen to be employed by the public sector. Just because they paycheck comes from the public treasury, doesnt mean that they are any more trustworthy.

This is absolutely outrageous....I wonder why they did not notify Obama before the primaries in Texas and Ohio? They have know about these violations since January 08
