My beloved Boyfriend just recently died of a massive heartattack. I have been suffering with grief. The second day after his death. I noticed a scent that I recognized with him. It grew so strong that it literally was making me choke.
I have since been smelling this scent almost every day. I never know when it will come. I think this is him coming to comfort me. I love him and miss him so much.
I talk to him when I smell this. I tell him I love him.

Sure thats not just a gas leak? might wanna have that checked out

I don't think belittling someone looking for comfort through the members of ATS here is right.. Your comment is repugnant and without compassion...

Your mind can play tricks on you, but it's pretty silly to believe someone can contact you after they're dead. I'd say people delude themselves into believing in ghosts and the afterlife to comfort themselves and dull the pain they may feel from no longer having the deceased in their lives. Just tell yourself that he's no longer having to endure the endless suffering of human life and let that be comfort enough, and look forward to your own end.

Ofcourse, this is what you believe, others might believe something different.
You dont need to be delusional to have different views/opinions about things the last time i checked... Or is this how your world works, everyone with another belief is delusional?

Well anyways, i dont think anyone is delusional because of what they think...

I believe so....I believe the deceased are always trying to communicate with us. However as you may already know, how they communicate with us is often entirely up to them. The problem with people is our misconception that we need to need to develop or be born with psychic abilities to communicate with them, while all we really need is awareness. The notation of being being born with or developing psychic abilities is silly, we already have them, its just a matter of refining them.

Anyways, I'm glad you are able to keep ties with you boyfriend. The fact that he is communicating with you and the fact that you are aware of it shows you two must have a really strong bond.

I don't think that ordinary human consciousness has enough strength to hold itself together after the physical component is gone. There may be other entities that are able to do this, but probably not people.

Otherwise, it might be possible for family members and other survivors to manifest a kind of physical form from their thoughts and memories of the person. That kind of creation from what is called a morphic resonance field is suggested by biologist Rupert Sheldrake.

Interesting dude. Check it out here:

You are the one that started with a personal attack. You do not know me so you cannot call me insenstive.

As for calling people lyers, I did no such thing. But, IMO, living on after death is a lie. Does that mean people who say that are lyers? No. They've just been deceived.

And Balez brings up my experience with this subject. It is the same as everyone else's. ZERO.

The bottom line is that we don't know what happens when die. So I don't think that we are in any shape, form, or fashion able to fathom what happens at the end of our lives or tell other people how they should feel.

I think that we all have different experiences and beliefs. Just because you think things of this nature are "tricks of the mind" don't discount other peoples experiences. Grief comes in many forms and everyone experiences it differently.

Really?
I would not say that i have zero experience when it comes to the paranormal.
More or less 15 years of it.
Most of it is banishing, and that comes from knowledge, alot of reading and research into this subject.

People have alot of opinions when it comes to this, but usually they have no knowledge, only opinions and ignorance....

Until a person dies and finds out for themselves what the truth is, then nobody has any experience. Doesn't matter what you read or study if it is a deception. I won't continue to argue. I said my piece to the OP.

Well sir I have a lifetime devoted to arcane and esoteric study. I have written one of the few works and possibly the only one devoted to raising the dead. I actively teach the subject to select students. I have personally attended to a bit over a dozen family members over the years. I have attended cancer patients that were how should we say one foot in the water and one on the land....

Perhaps I know just a bit more than you suspect.

Actually, no you don't know more than I suspect. You know a lot about the subject you teach and the folklore surrounding it, but I don't for a moment believe you have any more real, absolute knowledge about what happens after death than I do. And I'm not about to go into my qualifications because this doesn't need to turn into a peeing match between the two of us.

The fact of the matter is that you have devoted a lot of time and study to something that you can never *really* know until you experience it. I realize that you're qualified within your field of study, but that field of study is basically all about what you *think*. You really don't know, and there are plenty of people who disagree with your interpretation of the rules and they have good reasons for doing so.

***SNIPPED*** At no time did I give an absolute on any rules. Since I have a degree of experience with dealing with the dead and those who have returned, it is a positive that I have not only questioned them on this subject but held ongoing Q&A sessions. I have had personal instances with the spirits of past family members as I indicated. I have also been pronounced dead at the scene of an accident, and recovered fully some 45 minutes later. I did not ask for your opinions on my statements.

Well said, Illahee, and I wonder if you would also elaborate on your death experience, please? I have read many people see the light with the tunnel but I also read that most people don't, that most people experience nothingness before they are revived. I think relaying your experience might also help comfort ladyde to a degree.

Ladyde, you have my heartfelt condolences,

And i said my piece to what you said, in an open forum.

That depends on what you mean with experience.... If you suggest that it is only by dying that one can get experience from this, that is your view and belief on this.

But dont delude your self to think that others might and do know differently from that view.

This what i say, is not only an opinion, but from knowledge and experience, if you wish to think that because it is not in your area of expertise, and you only base what you know, on an opinion formed by... nothing, so be it.

Sorry about your loss.

In my opinion your are suffering from some variant of post-traumatic stress syndrome, or from psychoneurotic hysteria resulting from deep loss and grief. These kinds of situations, if mild, will usually fade away with time. If they seem to be distressing you too much I would recommend the consultation a a medical specialist.
Most of all, remember that it is no shame, on the contrary, to seek help wen we suffer such deep loses. Loses that sometimes take such a huge chunk of us with them that we think it impossible to recover from. In these situations all help can, and will, ease the pain you must be in.

Again, my deepest sympathy for your loss and may you be able to overcome it and live a full and happy life, like everyone of us deserves to.

Yes spirits of friends and loved one's do come to us. My wife died 11 years ago and I have seen her 4 times since then, I discovered that she manifest herself to me during time of intense emotional distress. I believe it's her way of letting me know I'm not alone.
Always acknowledge their presence so they will know that you are aware of there presence.
Namaste;

The body is just an interface between the energy that is really "you" and this physical world. The only "death" there is is that of the physical interface. The communication problem is because your energy is locked into the physical world's lower frequencies or vibrations, and you are geared to physical eyes, ears, etc. sort of like trying to get FM on an AM radio, poor analogy as that may be.

How do I know? That's what I learned when I too had a massive heart attack.

But we "are" WHO we are - the self-aware ego (it's not a bad word, just Latin ; ) that is the source of our joys and sorrows and yearning - precisely in THIS physical world. The "real" I is the one here and now. (There is a transcending and, in many, effectively transcendent part, too - but the conscious I is rooted in this physical spacetime)... No?

I am playing the devil's advocate here.
But not gratuitously - not without a very serious purpose.

Illahee, I'm most certainly not retarded. There's no need to get so personal about this. Besides, you twice said that contact after death was against the rules. You were very matter-of-fact about it. Your very wording left no room for debate. My only point is that you don't *know*, so you shouldn't be so dogmatic about it, especially in a thread where some level of compassion is called for. Even if you're right, perhaps this wasn't the thread to argue your position.

You may be right. I may be right. Or, perhaps, reality is far different than either of us supposes and we're both wrong. We simply don't know, but we do have thousands of years of anecdotal experience to indicate that people do, in fact, contact us after death.

Your lack of compassion and understanding is further highlighted by your name-calling. It's immature and uncalled for. Can you not discuss this without getting personal?

It happened to me twice; when my grandmother died and when my father died. There has been no other contact. I believe they are allowed to visit and say their good byes before going off to review their life. Good info on this in the story: www.12-21-2012-a-prophecy.com/

That's exactly what I believe. I came to that belief by reading Journey of Souls by Dr. Michael Newton. The short story is that he has hypnotically regressed hundreds of people back to the time between their lives, allowing them to recall little tidbits about the afterlife. He has pieced all of those tidbits together to paint a rather interesting picture of reality, one that seems to feel like the truth to me. It may not be true, but it does make some sense if you read the book.

In the book, he mentions that people do often stick around for a few days (in our time) and try to contact their loved ones. My own mother physically felt my father several days after he passed away, and she heard his voice clearly calling to her. Delusion? Maybe. There's no way to know for sure.

He also came to me in three very vivid, lucid dreams. After those dreams were over, it's never happened again in the years since. Were they just dreams with no significance? Could be. Again, we just don't know, but I do know they were very lucid and didn't "feel" like a regular dream. That's the only evidence I have as far as personal experience, and I realize it's pretty flimsy evidence.

Personally - and I am the first one to (gladly!) admit that I don't know anything about it - I don't think there is a "hierarchy" and/or "house rules", if you will. :-) In other words, I don't think there's anyone forbidding or allowing the dearly departed to do whatever they wish to do.

It would make certain sense if the "protocol" were similar in all or at least many cases. But it doesn't seem to be. The person of whom I talked in my first reply in this thread first smelled her sister's perfume a year (approximately) after she had departed - and still smells it occasionally (very rarely).

Obviously, I am not saying that the perceived smell should be interpreted as "contact". But the dynamics of the perfume's appearance is rather unusual, to say the least...
