Maybe the answer has been water all along. Of course I'm sure Hydrogen emissions would quickly become the new cause of "Global Warming".

I'm of the understanding that the problem isn't so much the resource but the market.

And of course, with the U.S economy the way it is, something akin to the full effect of the Oil Crisis would probably start some sort of nationwide rioting.

I almost wish we could run out of oil in order to force us to use freer and cleaner forms of energy.

There would be no time for anything...too late! Total chaos would ensue and marshall law would be the order of the day. People would die of starvation among other things. Not too hard to imagine really.

Actually we do have a lot of alternate fuel sources.
Cooking oil can run in almost any diesel engine even without modifications.(Although minor mods are required in cold climates).
Unfortunately some government actually discouraged people from using cooking oil as fuels and charged them with tax evasion(because they did not pay fuel tax on the cooking oil ).
We will have to develop alternate power sources but till then cooking oil and bio fuels are the only answer.
Wven if we have fossil fuel reserves on earth for 60-70 years it will become too expensive for ordinary people to purchase in 20-25 years and that is if we are lucky otherwise i think fuel will become too expensive in the next 15 years or so.
Worst case situation just pour vodka in your tank
