Russia now has #1 fighter plane in the world... SU-30- Vectored Thrust with Canards. As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving
along side of, and just below the canopy rail. The "canards" are the small wings forward of the main wings. The smoke and contrails provide a sense
of the actual flight path, sometimes in reverse direction.
This video is of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian's-30MK fighter aircraft. You will not believe what you are about to see.
The fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion in seconds. (full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first
without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin in less than a minute.
These maneuver capabilities don't exist in any other aircraft in the world today.. Take a look at the video with the sound up. This aircraft is of
concern to U.S. and NATO planners. We don't know which nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK, hopefully China isn't one of them.

Well I'm sure if it was superior to our jets that our Government would never admit this to the public.
That was a good video I'm sure its not just all about the plane but the pilot flying the plane as well. That was one impressive pilot I'm sure.

The best aircraft in the world isnt Russian. This aircraft is 4.5 gen tech. Its not even a true 5th generation fighter, like the F22 is, which just
happens to also incorporate a stealth plane on top of its 5th gen tech...in the end, this thing while a good plane, doesnt stack up to the Raptors
capabilities...

The Raptor also has a lot of these capabilities. The Russian aircraft looks like it would give off a huge Radar return and i see nothing stealthy
about it. Flies pretty and prbably dies pretty, too.

The Raptor is putting on a flying dispay at RIAT 2008 this July at RAF Fairford, England.
We will be able to see what it can do, then compare footage with the SU 30.

Twelve Years Gone
I have to agree this isn't exactly Breaking Alternative News...
From Wikipedia: Sukhoi Su-30
The Sukhoi Su-30 (NATO reporting name "Flanker-C") is an agile military aircraft developed by Russia's Sukhoi Aviation Corporation and
introduced into operational service in 1996. It is an air superiority fighter that can also perform ground strikes.
Emphasis mine.
I think this is more suited for the Weaponry forum, but if anyone disagrees,
please let me know.

Oh please, the SU-30 is a 4.5 generation fighter. But Russia's SU47 Berkut could turn heads:
SU-47 Berkut
Russia always shows this off at their yearly Air Show. Its pretty amazing what it can do. Berkut is probably as manueverable as the Raptor. I'm
not sure about speed or stealthiness.

The best fighter in the world title belongs to the F-22 with the EF-2000 right on its heels at second. The debate begins with the 3rd spot. The SU-47
if I recall is not in production AT all.

No it is not, produce it in large numbers and see if unit price does not drop under 100 million. These advanced Su-Whatever are going for 60 million a
pop.
Also, this belongs in the Aircraft Forum.

Good God, I’ve seen plenty videos of Russian jets before, and seen a few of them fly personally, but this one takes the cake.
I accepted the insane maneuverability of the agile thrust vectored MiG-29OVT, but this thing is just creeping me out. I’ve seen Su-27 personally,
and it’s HUGE.
This SU-30 is a two seater, with a fuel tank, performing maneuvers that I simply haven’t seen before. Can that thing even stall? It flies like a
UFO for crying out loud!

Too bad it's not a production fighter. I am excited to see the capabilities of the PAK-FA, IMHO it's going to give the Raptor a run for its
money.
Also, I would just like to point out that the cost of the Raptor has dropped to 43 million dollars.
www.abovetopsecret.com...
As discussed in this thread, Lockheed won a contract to build 23 F-22s for 1 billion dollars, which equates to 43 million a bird. This makes it
significantly cheaper than the Su-series of aircraft.

Not in production? Yes it is. India and Malaysia both operate the TVC variants (designated Su-30MKI and MKM respectively), while China flies the
Su-30MKK and MK2 (not thrust vectored, but still great aircraft). Absolutely in production, under export, and very good at what they do.
Edit: Sorry, just realised you were responding to the Su-47 myth rather than the OP. Still, rather than edit out my post, I wanted to keep it on
record that I think the Su-30 is a great aircraft.
