Is ' Writer ' an earned title?

Is Writer an earned title on ATS? I'm referring to those titles other than "member" underneath one's username.

Is there a glossary somewhere of these categories of membership?

ABOUT ATS: Writer, Fighter And Scholar Specialty Titles

Writer status is needed for the Collaborative Fiction forum. You don't need it for the Short Stories forum.

Fighter status is for the Debate forum.

Scholar status is for the Research forum.

Earned? Not really. You have to have these titles before you can participate in those forums.

The best way to get writers status is to enter a short story into a contest.

I'd noticed a 'writer' tag added to my profile a week or so ago but i don't know why...i'm not ungrateful or owt, just puzzled at its appearance

That's strange. I looked at your profile and didn't see any submissions to a contest or anything.

Question... have you approached staff about becoming involved in either a debate (fighter) or a study project (scholar)

The reason I ask is that a mod might have accidentally put the incorrect status under your username.

Thanks for the reply masqua...I did submit a lil piece for the xmas poetry competition run by WorldWatcher, could that be where it came from?

That's exactly where it came from.

That you entered a contest gets you the title. Because the poetry was added onto worldwatcher's Poetry Contest thread is why I couldn't find an individual thead of your own.

My writer title has disappeared. I've had it for years and just noticed all of a sudden it's gone. Do they come with a time limit?

So do I understand this right...

A member has to have a fighter status before he can debate in that forum?

How does one come by this status then...cause I want in?

I'm wondering are titles removed as penalties for something because I've never seen them revert back to member before?

Could be mistaken but I think the best way to go would be to message one of the debate forum moderators (Like Semper or Vagabond for example) and once you let them know you have a debate planned with someone else they'll give you fighter status and then set up the debate thread for you.

Now I have to find someone to debate with (should be cake on here) and a nice subject to go battling about.
