A rare species of an animal was discovered by a custodial worker in the women's bathroom of the economy faculty of the National University in Santo Domingo, DR. The strange animal was found while drinking water out of a toilet.

I lived in Texas for a few years...it looks like an albino armadillo to me. You figure any albinoism in animals could also be linked to other recessive gene mutations and variations etc. I am not up on all the indigenous life of the DR but that's just my 2 cents, it's odd for sure, if it's real.

Some aspects of it appear to be a giant rat. Just the fact that the eyes appear eerily large and the body is smooth. Infact I thought it looked abit like a sealion when I first saw that picture.

On the other hand it could just be a hoax. Are there any other pictures of the 'creature'?

Looks like a bleached rat. Especially if it's smaller than it actually appears in the pic. Also, caps lock mate, that's a pal.

That is rodentia of some type. The extreme close-up makes it look larger than it really is.

ok - the bloody obvious question :

if it was as stated :

" discovered drinking from a toilet " - one assumes it was in the building and alive

why has its corpse now migrated outside to a wet pavement by a car ??

something stinks about the story - and its not putrescence from the now dead animal

this pic is a poster child for how not to ptotograp an " unknown " animal

ie one shot from a forced perspective

just my nature - but i would take a minimum of 12 pics to attemp to record every posible detail

and another of my pet peeves - a lack of scale i do not expect everyone to have a ruler with them - but ANY item of known dimension will suffice

It reminds me of a Possum albeit hairless.

A link to the origianal story would of course help, perhaps you could post one.

I have my doubts that the white 'hose' under it is actually part of the creature. Could be a white hose the guy was using to wash his car and it just looks like it belongs to the animal because of the way it appears to taper going under the water and out of frame.

The hind paws look similar to a rodent, but the face looks canine.

So I'm guessing a dog, one of the smaller somewhat exotic breeds.

Edit: Zoomed in for a close up and I suppose it is the tail - I think that it's a forced perspective causing a rodent to look bigger than it really is. So not a dog, but a rodent. Any idea where this was shot?

IOW, why not straighten it out to get a good pic, and take a couple of them. By leaving it in that tortured position and cropping the pic like that, it shows it's a normal animal that the photographer discovered looked exotic by the angle and the perspective.

I'm going to have to go along with ape as something is fishy here.

Could be a possum fetus but I lean toward something more contrived.

It looks twisted, like it's lying on its back, but the head falls to the left (from our view)... looks a little inhumane... And it kind of looks like the front paw is bound? Or maybe thats a leaf? Hmm... suffice to say I dont know.

It definitely looks like an albino of some species. Is there more to the story? I don't want to register on that site just to read about it. I'm wondering why it was killed.
