For 20 years, Sheriff Santiago Barrera Jr. had done what he pleased with no challenges to his reign. He decided who sat in his jail and when they were released. Sometimes it was before a judge got involved and other times it was after.

Down in Texas the local sheriff, apparently, is "The Law."

One wonders how many undeserving people were subjected to his brand of "justice" over the years.

Dirty law enforcement mixed up with dirty politics, sounds like a classic Texas mix.

Any Texans here care to confirm or dispute the charges?

I read about this the other day and thought I this legal? Does anyone know the legality of this. Should the government step in on this? Just seems odd this makes national news and no one does anything about it.

"Yarg! Huge uptick in police brutality! NWO time!"

Sick of reading cop-bashing threads (not blaming you OP)
