F-16 Crashed Friday in Arizona

www.foxnews.com

The Air Force pilot of a F-16 that crashed Friday near Phoenix is unlikely to have survived, an Air Force source has told FOX News.

The source said a witness saw the plane go down but no parachute, and the crash might have occurred when the pilot lost consciousness due to flying conditions.

A definitive cause of the crash and the condition of the pilot still aren\'t available.

The crash occured at about noon Friday south of Alamo Lake, Ariz., during a student training mission out of Luke Air Force Base. The pilot was the only person on board.

Sad story. Has anyone else heard any updates about this? How rare is it that an f-16 goes down? Why would the pilot not eject?

It happens. To give you an idea of why, see the thread that I just posted.

As for why, he could have been doing air combat maneuvering, and blacked out. The F-16 used to have a real problem with being able to pull more Gs than the pilots. Or he could have been doing ground attack training and got target fixation and simply flew into the ground. Or he could have had a physiological problem and got disoriented. Or maybe there was something on the ground he was trying to avoid hitting and he stayed with the plane too long.
