Bush Dials Back Watergate-Era Reforms on Spying Safeguards!

rawstory.com

A little-noticed executive order President Bush signed last month dials back checks on the Intelligence Community that have been in place since revelations that spy agencies abused their power in the 1960s and 70s.

The Boston Globe's Charlie Savage, who is among the top reporters uncovering Bush administration secrecy, shines some light on the new order and its implications in an article Friday.

Almost 32 years to the day after President Ford created an independent Intelligence Oversight Board made up of private citizens with top-level clearances to ferret out illegal spying activities, President Bush issued an executive order that stripped the board of much of its authority.

O...M..G...

This President now makes Tricky Dick look like the Pope. His criminality knows no ends...And the worst part is that he just keeps doing this over and over and over...And NO ONE will hold him accountable.

Well, he is the decider...lets just hope whoever gets in after the elections is a better decider than he is.

in the case of Executive orders, who could actually hold him responsbile? Congress? Senate? The people?

It seems to me , again and again, that the CIA is a private company doing whatever they want to cover up the truth.
The CIA has lost oversight and control by any government.
They are just as dangerous as AIPAC and the Federal Reserve.

Corporate business is running the show. I can't believe this has come so far.
Who's gonna ignore fascism at this point?

People-I HOPE YOU'RE ALL PAYING ATTENTION TO THIS...

Our Decider is getting one step closer by the day to full Dictatorial status! And it's all being done in secrecy! These are HUGE events to take notice of---The system of checks and balances is diminishing more and more right under all of our noses. Pretty soon we will have NO rights left!!

Another article appearing in the Boston Globe on this crrep's sneaky criminal activities. So he's basically undoing restrictions that were put on his criminal dad and Dick Insaney 30 years ago for all the crooked crap they were involved in!...This is unreal...

President weakens espionage oversight

"It's quite clear that the Bush administration officials who were around in the 1970s are settling old scores now," said Tim Sparapani, senior legislative counsel to the American Civil Liberties Union. "Here they are even preventing oversight within the executive branch. They have closed the books on the post-Watergate era."

Ford created the board following a 1975-76 investigation by Congress into domestic spying, assassination operations, and other abuses by intelligence agencies. The probe prompted fierce battles between Congress and the Ford administration, whose top officials included Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, and the current president's father, George H. W. Bush.
