Separatist? You are Chinese arent you.
Chinese invaded a sovereign state or country. They arent separatists.

I'm tired of explain this, but to quote some words I posted in other thread
==========
American always show their ignorance in this forum.
Tibet was conquered by communist in 1950? and Xinjiang was also
conquered by communist in 1950?
look at your own map published before 1950, please.
if you can't find any old map, I will show a picture grasped in a famous
documentary made by USA-"why we fight", and see Tibet and Xinjiang were
within whose territory. say nothing of Taiwan, it is USA who give
Taiwan back to China.

I'm tired of teaching those ignorant Americans about history,
Almost all Americans I meet here are full of bias about China,
Yes, American hate communist, it is your business,
but if you hurt the territorial integrity of China, you insult all Chinese
people. if your people keeps on your bias, the hatred between the two
people will be deepen.

All eyes will be on China in 2008. There are so many businesses moving to China for cheap manufacturing and engineering these days. If China wants to keep those businesses in her country she will have to change her ways. The country has already sold itself to the merchants of the world. It can't take it back. China has lost its ancient grip. If there is another irrational act by the Chinese government on its people then she will have declared war on the Global World.

China can't afford to lose all that business. I can see China giving more freedom to its people sometime after the 2008 Olympics. With Tiawan pulling on the one side, Tibet on the other and the Public eye in 2008 I can see China yielding its might.

Freedom of religion is right around the corner.

gs001, isn't that the exact same thing you posted in this thread and then I provided some info showing that it was ignorant and wrong. Why would you then go and post the exact same thing in another thread complaining about other peoples ignorance?

Lostinspace, the way I see it the USA and others will allow China to build and maintain it's empire as long as it allows others to do the same. We can see this happening with the US invasion of Iraq/Afghanistan and also Russia is looking to rebuild it's own empire by making friends with countries such as Iran, Venezuela etc.

So, you are not ignorant.
but your "info" provided in that thread is confirming the fact that
Xinjiang was NOT "conquered" by communist in 1950, but has been part
of Chinese empire long ago. right?
American hate communist, that is why they alway distort the fact
about China deliberately.

I just feel sorry for the Tibet's, of all the people to be conquered and oppressed. There weren't exactly a violent warlike people.

I wish they would just be left alone.

And to those saying the rest of the world should do something?

Boycott the Olympics...that wouldn't do much

Cut of trade...Given America's financial situation (Who do you think loaned them the money for all those economic infusion checks
) .. it would hurt htem as much if not more...

Invade...You know the saying, never start a land war in Asia.

Bomb...They are capable of retaliation...

There is really nothing practical anyone CAN do, short of a major, possibly nuclear war. No one wants to do that, and to be honest...you can't blame them to much.

Here's an update on the situation in Tibet:

The official Tibetan judicial authorities gave protesters until Monday night to turn themselves in and benefit from leniency.

"Criminals who do not surrender themselves by the deadline will be sternly punished according to the law," said a notice on the Tibetan government Web site (www.tibet.gov.cn).

International pressure mounted on Beijing to show restraint. Australia, the United States and Europe urged the Chinese authorities to find a peaceful outcome, while Taiwan, which China claims as its own, predictably condemned Beijing for launching a crackdown.

Xinhua news agency said 10 "innocent civilians" had been shot or burnt to death in the street clashes in the remote, mountain capital which has been sealed off. The dead included two people killed by shotguns.

A source close to the Tibetan government-in-exile, however, questioned the official death toll of 10. He said at least five Tibetan protesters had been shot dead by troops.

Some Tibet monitoring organisations outside the country put the death toll at up to 32.

Wonder why we didn't tell France the same things when Muslims were, ahem, protesting in Paris.

"Guys, we know the theocratic sorts are setting fire to the city, but please, use restraint!"

Muslims? .. Not just Muslims.. that may have been sold in the West to demonize the Muslims in France.. but it was more then a Islamic issue. It was nearly every ethnic group suppressed in France.. it was the Poor.. but for the most part, the largest majority.. it was just the Youth.. Black youth, White youth.. Muslims youth and Christian youth..

It was a deeper issue with their socialist system slowly collapsing and in the wake, the youth wanted secure jobs that it was nearly impossible to be fired from.

Anyways, back on topic..

Every single one of us should be boycotting the Olympics, and boycotting Wallmart for being the biggest importer of Chinese goods.

its funny isnt it, that we can shake our fists and say dont do it to other countries that might have a means to show us a match, but with other countries not deemed such a threat we can just go in there an be like your all christian and democrats now,, enjoy your hotdog.......

if america is gonna be hardlining on one areas condition and softballin on others due to what they might cause then we are seriously a country being run for the money..... theres no " Pride or Honor " in helping one sort an not the other.... Only shame and disgrace....

wheres the world police.

Update has civilian dead clocked at around 100. I would not be surprised if it was in fact more.

www.cnn.com...

Funny how this isn't "big news" on this site...sad...It seems others would rather bash the US with baseless claims, rather then put focus on anyone else that just might be doing worse, and it its own people.

There is no double-standard. France does not have a history of crushing "protests" (using that word loosely) by the Muslim minority. The said cannot be said about Chinese policy towards any sort of protest, particularly in Tibet. Second, French Muslims, while being poor and often disenfranchised (often by their own hand), are still French citizens that enjoy the benefits of said citizenship (such as civil rights and living under the rule-of-law). The people of Tibet do not enjoy civil rights, live under what is essentially foriegn-occupation, and are subject to the whims of Beijing, not the rule-of-law.

I hate mouth-pieces spouting propaganda pretending like they know history! Oh my god! We have so much in common!

Since you are an expert on the subject on Tibet, perhaps you can give us a detailed history about the dispute over Tibetan autonomy before 1950. Also, could you tell us if Tibet's sovereignty was never in dispute, why did China feel the need to invade in 1951?

Thus the whole "rioting and setting fire to stuff" right?

Ah well. I can't blame them - or the folks in Paris. When put into a crap position by a government that just will not listen, well, what're you gonna do?

I was simply noting the double standard in the way hte US handles the situation.

Always remember: If you are an immigrant to a Western country, and feel "oppressed", "hard-done by", or are just in need of "screwing with the System":
Riot!
Chances are the local government will gladly bend over backwards to provide "anti-poverty intitiatives", the police forced to end your random rampages of violence, car-burning etc will be harangued by every Leftist organisation in the country while the liberals can find "another" cause to whine about.

Seriously, you cannot equate the conditions of the Tibetans to that of the North African/Arab "immigrants" (and descendants of immigrants) in Paris - unless you're claiming that the North Africans/Arabs are the oppressed natives of France that are currently under the thumb of a "puppet government" created by Germany, or some other more powerful neighbour!

Not that the previous Dalai Lamas were any better at managing Tibet, but still....

More news on the situation in Tibet:

China is now blocking YouTube:

THE Chinese Government has blocked residents' access to YouTube after video reports of the protests in Tibet were posted on the website.

The Dalai Lama speaks:

THE Dalai Lama has called for an international investigation into the "cultural genocide" taking place in his homeland of Tibet.

Speaking from his exiled base in Dharamsala, India, the Dalai Lama overnight launched a scathing criticism of China's decades-long rule of Tibet.

DHARAMSHALA, India (AFP) - The Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, on Saturday said he backs China's right to host the Olympics after Beijing reportedly charged he was trying to sabotage the summer Games.
The statement came after media reports on Friday said China's top official in Tibet, Zhang Qingli, had accused the Dalai Lama of trying to "sabotage this important event and spread rumours."

The Dalai Lama on Sunday accused China of unleashing a "cultural genocide" in Tibet and demanded an impartial international probe into the situation in violence-hit Lhasa.

Addressing his first press conference here in the wake of the violence in the Tibetan capital since Friday, the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader felt said that India has a few limitations as far as China is concerned and was "too cautious" on the Tibet issue.

The talk of a boycott grows louder:

A NUMBER of top athletes are considering boycotting the games in China over the bloody crackdown on protesters in Tibet.

International Olympic Committee vice-president Thomas Back said several sports stars were feeling ill at ease about the Olympic Games.

Mr Bach said he understood the athletes' concerns about the situation in Tibet but said he was advising them to participate.
news.com.au | Athletes considering Olympic boycott

China should suffer a boycott of its cherished Beijing Olympics if it mishandles protests in restive Tibet, Hollywood actor and Tibetan activist Richard Gere said on Friday.

Gere, a close follower of the Dalai Lama and chairman of the International Campaign for Tibet, stressed that neither the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader nor the ICT advocates a boycott of the Summer Olympics.

But he said it was his personal opinion that it would be "unconscionable" to attend the Beijing Games if China failed to deal peacefully with unrest in the Himalayan region – protests that have turned to riots and already claimed several lives.

"I've not been pro-boycott, but I think if this is not handled correctly, yes we should boycott. Everyone should boycott," Gere told Reuters in a telephone interview.

China has the right to do what it needs to do, I blame the Kosovo independence movement for starting this whole mess. When is Israel going to give up it's land, never, that's when. The U.S. can't start bombing China like they did to Yougoslavia under clinton and there will not be any NATO troops in Tibet. WWIII is well under way.

I am tired of people standing up or their governments actions when they are wrong.

Besides, I am not an American.

This has # all to do with America but how your country is treating its people. Its animals. Etc.

I don't need to resort to Tibet , you do the same if not worse with followers of the Falun Gong. Those are not even conquered, invaded or anything, they are regular Chinese people. They are put in jails and used as living organdonors. Perhaps for you that is normal, for me it aint.

Fact is : your country is trying to profile itself as a peaceful nation , however I see nothing of that at all.

- Due to Chinese vetoing and actions, Burmese dictators can continue their sucking dry of the country, the torturing of people, killing of people .. etc.

- Chinese government is actively organising progroms against followers of Falun Gong an other religions. Putting them in jail. Torturing and murdering them. Using them as living organ donors.

- Chinese government does not do enough to stop the torture of animals.

Need I to go on?

I got nothing against China or its people, but a load against its Government and those defending it.

So following your logic, if Europe and Russia think its needed to invade the USA they have the right also?

You blame the Kosovo Independence movement for starting this mess? LOL.
Action groups, Humanitarian groups etc are already DECADES taking actions to free Tibet. This is going on longer than this year fyi.

The Chinese Army drove through the streets of Lhasa today parading dozens of Tibetan prisoners in handcuffs, their heads bowed, as troops stepped up their hunt for the rioters in house-to-house searches.

As the midnight deadline approached for rioters to surrender, four trucks in convoy made a slow progress along main roads, with about 40 people, mostly young Tibetan men and women, standing with their wrists handcuffed behind their backs, witnesses said.

A soldier stood behind each prisoner, hands on the back of their necks to ensure their heads were bowed.
