I'll never cease to be surprised at how people will put successful careers in such jeopardy.

However, as prostitution is currently illegal, why would a former district attorney and current governor of New York so clumsily allow himself to be exposed to such jeopardy?

Career, family, all of it. So much to repair. Wow.

It doesn't matter what your politics are. One still has to be somewhat struck by how much he's lost for so little benefit. Even stranger, he won't be the last from either side of the aisle who gets his own career ended.

I'm simply amazed that the guy who made his name going after Wall Street corruption would do something like this.

However, since Spitzer appears to have been a client, rather than a manager, he's probably not in any real legal jeopardy; his problems are mostly political.

I can't be sure but solicitation is probably illegal in NY, and you could get you car confiscated, for example. It's got to be a misdemeanor.

solicitation is illegal but his crime is far worse. he violated the Mann Act by bringing a hooker across state lines to have sex. That's one part of his crime. Then there's the phony corporation (QAT Communications) and the wire transfers that were already under IRS scrutiny. Here's a guy who made a career out of nailing corporate crime, who was unforgiving when he busted people, who showed incredible disdain for anyone involved in white collar crimes and prostitution and here he is doing the very things he's railing against.

There's a great cartoon in today's post. It shows a hooker at a bar, sitting next to two guys in suits and it says Wall Street on their backs. One of the guys is saying, to the hooker, "at least you got paid for it."

What is the big suprise? The politicians we have are the most corrupt and immoral bunch of idiots that we could ever be cursed with having...these guys use hookers all the time: Boring wives that nag and have lost their appeal after 30 years get pushed aside for a young hooker..and it is common.

The bigshots see it as nothing more than big boys playing with big boys toys...they perks that come with money and power. They think they are above the law: Just look at the examples that we have seen: Congressmen in bathrtooms trolling for gay sex...hookers used all the time..Don't foget the scandal years ago during the Reagan years about the Bush Sr. boy hooker visits to the White House..it has gone on forever.

Spitzer got caught up in Bush's spying...Bush has been spying on the congressmen since he took control in 2000...and he has the dirt on a lot of them: Ever wonder why we never manage to get anyone to call Bush's bluff on all the crimes he has committed? He has the dirt on all of them, and they are all dirty in one way or another. Blackmail is the method that the Bush cabal uses to keep themselves out of jail, and to keep the senate off his back. Bush gets anything he demands..ever notice that?

The weak and twisted politicians are too deeply corrupted to do any good; this nation is finished. Get used to seeing our rights disappear while we get more and more police stae measures placed on us all. It is coming..and soon: total fascism.

Well Larry Craig didn't resign.

For the last 6+ years the feds have prosecuted democrats a lot more aggressively than they have republicans, and the fact Martha Stewart ended up in prison was based on the fact she was a big democrat donater.

Once the bush administration is over and either Hillary or Obama are in the white house, I think we'll see less overt anti-democrat bias in the way the feds handle things.
