Skull and Bones for Dummies

Before it was Skull and Bones, it was scull and bones. A scull being a small, slender, rowing skiff in which the Ivy League youth have traditionally raced each other for over a century. Knowing this, I envision six skinny kids rowing a boat and I deduce from this that Skull and Bones was originally the nickname of the Yale rowing team. Bony kids in a boat. Works for me.

Yeah but it isn't the symbols that frighten me but rather the fact there are secretive groups of arrogant, greedy, contemptuous, deceptive, and dangerous men who seem to believe they�re god�s gift to humanity. They know what they're doing is wrong, otherwise they wouldn't have to hide it from us. They have to employ an army of PR hacks to keep citizens from rising up and lynching the whole lot of 'em. What does that tell you?

Secret societs would not be known. Hale Bop was secretive,
Branch Davidians were secrettive.
Not these other well known groups where information is public.

There traditions and rituals like any fraternity or sorroity are secret.
