Well it's a big storm that is for sure but it's not a cyclone, for one cyclones only originate south of the equator. Up north here we call em hurricanes. and guess what? it's not hurricane season.

Sorry got sidetracked, Hurricane season lasts from June until November. There have been hurricanes late as January but this is not a hurricane.

Here in Florida we are kinda used to heavy rainfall and gusty winds. If it were a hurricane it would be plastered all over the main stream news. Cause Floridians love to listen to the weatherman talk about hurricanes. We check out storm tracks and plot the projected paths in order to know whether to "bunker down" and get our hurricane party supplies.

Again Cyclones affect only the southern hemisphere of the globe. Hurricanes are up north.

The one up in Washington state is a winter storm. Might have been a bad winter storm but a hurricane? nope sorry hurricanes are tropical systems and the pacific north west does not experience tropical systems.

We are in for anywhere from 8 inch to two foot snowfall from this in great lakes area. I have never remembered such a weird winter and so much tornadic activity, in winter.

Well it is a cyclone in the sense that it's a low pressure system (or depression) - but it's not a tropical cyclone

It's understandably a bit confusing when tropical cyclones are simply called 'Cyclones' in the Indian Ocean region. Tropical cyclones in the Atlantic are, of course, called hurricanes.

Thanks for that Essan. I was going to point that out but really don't have the knowledge base to back it.
