Shackleton Crater - The New Tranquility Base?

scitech.blogs.cnn.com

One thing is sure, the terrain in the area is rugged, with peaks as high as Mt. McKinley and crater floors four times deeper than the Grand Canyon. But experts say the area is ideal for hosting a lunar outpost, despite the rough landscape.

The South Pole is illuminated with sunlight for a substantial portion of each day, so solar panels could be designed and deployed to provide an outpost with a strong, steady flow of electricity.

For those of you who think the first moon landing actually happened, it is interesting to note a new site is in the process of being chosen. This very rugged site on the south pole sounds like it should prove to be a geologically rich place for both the necessities, such as watter, and science.

Wow thanks a bunch Borg! I guess I can actually do something useful when I can't sleep at two in the morning

Unfortunately hearing any more about this will probably be a long ways off.

The site where Apollo 11 landed was christened "Tranquility Base" I do believe.

I assume thats what it refers to.

Yes I am sure that is what it is referring to, but I think the point being made is the moon landing is thought to be a hoax by many conspiracy theorist.

Well not only that, but I wouldn't call where they landed a base actually. It was a camp, of course, but a base??? I don't quite see it like that..

Could have just been a play on words though...
