So, I've learned XHTML, and I'm currently learning CSS, after which I'll be learning some web programming such as PHP and Javascript. My goal is to create a website where people who are of like mind on this whole SitX thing can do two things. One, they will have access to information regarding survival, etc. from other online sources such as articles, links to good websites, etc. Two, it will provide a medium for people across the nation, and possibly even the continent, to network and create social bonds which may come in useful during a SitX.

I have always thought I would go it alone, and I still might, but there's something to be said about knowing other like-minded individuals and having correspondence with them, hopefully even in the event of a SitX. If we can create a network now, it will be useful during the SitX. I figured it wouldn't be a literal militia by any measure, but if say the government and military turned on us, we could band together based on our social network of like-minded people rather than each trying to fight it ourselves. If the network grew large enough, it would be a great asset in any SitX situation.

I was worried about the possibility that anyone who was a member of the site or even just visited might be blacklisted or something, but I think the reality is that if the powers-that-be are capable of that, anyone who would visit my sight would already be the list. I think the potential benefits outweigh the risks involved.

I'm hoping for the website to be completed by the next election at the latest, (just a timeline, not because I believe anything will happen at that date!), and that it will begin to foster interest fairly quickly so that we can build a national network in as little time as possible. The network wouldn't be an organized one with meetings or anything, but would provide people with contact information, (possibly email addresses within the web domain that would not require any personal information, if I can swing it), and when individuals begin to see people in nearby areas with similar interests in survival they'll be able to use that in a potential SitX. For example, if I met someone in my vicinity, with like-minded beliefs on Martial Law, and Martial Law was declared, I could check up on that person and they could check up on me to make sure we both carried out our escape plans accordingly. (Also, if I got information about it before they did I could warn them in advance.)

My plan to recruit members quickly is to email the websites to various organizations that would have members that would be interested, offer to exchange links on the website, and get members that way. I would also send my URL to militias across the country as their members would probably have some interest, and militias would be good things to network with in the event of a SitX.

As mentioned, the site will also be chock full of survival information, as much as I can gather and organize.

Anyway, that's my plans, still sorting out the details, but once I get a better grip on CSS and some knowledge of some web-scripting I'm going to get to work on it. I may end up enlisting the help of my cousins who own a web design company, but I'm not sure it's up their alley. :p

Any suggestions or ideas? Anyone think it just won't work and I shouldn't waste my time with it?

I'm currently trying to think of a good way to allow people to network with people in their area without giving too much information. As I said, I would like to make email addresses for members which they could get without giving any personal information, though this could be tricky. That would provide a mode of contact which would keep people's privacy, unless you want to get into IP addresses, but perhaps there's a way I could force everyone through a proxy server before they get to my website? Any thoughts on that anyone?

I figured we could just have everyone select their region from a pre-made list, regions which are fairly large in size, perhaps about the size of a state. Then everyone in a given region would have some way of knowing each other was in the region. On top of that, they would be able to network with people in the regions surrounding their region in case they are on the borders of one region or want to expand their network.

The site would not be intended to facilitate people meeting with each other, just exchanging their anonymous email addresses, talking about strategies and supplies and gear specific to their given region. I would probably put a HUGE note at the top of contact pages advising everyone to keep their personal locations and personal details about weapons and supplies to themselves.

I dunno. It's still an idea in the process, but I think it could be a great tool, at the very least as a compilation of related information. And if nothing else, it will be a fun project for me to use my newly developed web design skills.

I doubt that, but I do want to remind you of this site rule.

ATS Terms and Conditions
1 e.) Recruitment/Solicitation:

i) You will not use your membership at The Above Network, LLC for any type of recruitment to any causes whatsoever. You will not post, use the chat feature or use the private message system to disseminate advertisements, chain letters, petitions, pyramid schemes, or any kind of solicitation for political action, social action, letter campaigns, or related online and/or offline coordinated actions of any kind.

Probably best to keep the discussion generic, and general, in scope, to avoid bumping into this violation, mate.

I didn't even think about that. Sorry if it's gone out of line. I'll do my best to stay within the T&C's.

Hope everyone knows I'm not trying to recruit anyone for anything, just looking for advice and suggestions on this... (I'm scared to say anything now )

I think you'll be ok, asking for feedback .

Just a reminder to keep it generic.

A lawyer? Whew, my investment in this thing just multiplied by about one hundred times! I wonder if perhaps it's too late in the game to even waste my time on this. There's too many things that could go wrong, you know? Bah! You've all scared me into thinking it won't work, you must work for them!

Don't be scurred. Just be careful. Same thing ATS does with keeping discussion of illegal activity in check. The type of people you wish to attract are often those that want to overthrow the Government and stuff like that. There's nothing wrong with talking about such topics as it's all free speech, but it doesn't take much to become a target. Hosting everything overseas, on a .sk (Slovakia) domain for instance, would provide some protection from those who don't care about the 1st Amendment. But I don't know for how long.

My own personal preference is to not give my position. I refuse to carry a GPS even without attaching my name or my political views to it. I don't really know what the balance could be between letting people network with people in their vicinity and keeping a decent amount of anonymity. This is a huge hurdle I need to jump before I can make the website. I just don't know what to do.
