I don't know if you picked a nerve, or that you are biased from your current situation.

Its very easy to preach from a moral standpoint when you have everything in life that you want. A happy relationship, a stable life etc.

Im not denying that you have a point, from a practical standpoint, but as with everything human, its never that straight forward.

Not everyone is happy, some people turn to sex/drugs because they think that it will make them happy. Not everyone has found their ideal partner. People lie, people get drunk, people do stupid things, for no apparent reason.

You theory, while being being compelling is flawed on a basic level.
Human instinct. Next to survival, the instinct to re-crate is a strong one. No moral thoughts, words, wisdom, hind-sight or effort is going to change that one. Genetics are genetics.

However, attitude plays a great part. We are surrounded in a sexed up, icon driven society, engineered by marketing companies, fashion icons. Conditioned to think that beauty is skin deep, and that sex is something to be sought after.

The usual control methods (the bible/etc) no longer work, and we seek after status, technology and money.

Get rid of the control methods, and the attitudes, backed up by ID cards tied to medical records, you might stand a chance on your crusade.

Aids natural, i doubt it. A very clever weapon, manipulated by our own self-importance's.

And, like it or not, condoms do NOT prevent STDs. they are meant to keep people from getting pregnant. We have Clinton to thank for the rumor that condoms keep you safe from AIDS.

Once again, evidence of any kind? Perhaps you should set up an experiment with a Trojan condom and some kind of virus (a virus being the smallest organism and the one most likely to be able to pass through latex). Once you have proved that a virus can pass through the latex, you can not only show your evidence here, but you can also file a class action lawsuit and retire.

You want to save YOURSELF from getting AIDS? Don't have sex with slutty people.

On the other hand, the first LOGICAL argument I have heard was from 2ciewan. You are correct, and I DID ignore human flaws. However, I am just saying how to prevent AIDS. I'm saying that people are going to do it. As for the needles, if so many people didn't have AIDS and spread it, it would not be a huge problem. But, you ARE correct, and due to lax precautions in the medical field, more people have been exposed and infected.

As for sunsetspawn, your unfailing inability to see what is put in front of you is astounding. Why does abstinence work? Because, if you don't have AIDS, and you don't sleep with anyone until your wedding night, and your wife has done the same, and so have both your parents, there is NOTHING to worry about beyond Doctors who practice unsafe sanitation. If blood transfusion is what scares you, just donate your own blood to an account in the blood bank, and they can use your own blood during surgery.

As for saying that condoms do not always prevent STDs, this is true. It is not neccesarily the integrity of the Latex, but if it can get into your bloodstream, you're screwed. Condoms do not totally protect you. Deal with it.

So, is the truth really known about AIDS? I am suspicious.

Edit: One reason I am suspicious is that the stigma associated with male homosexual behavior might cause the statistics to be skewed, i.e. men might claim they caught AIDS from their female partner rather than come out of the closet. That doesn't serve anyone, does it?

A syndrome is not contagious as it isn't a vector or a disease.

Immune deficiency syndromes have been listed in the medical encyclopedias for over 100 years, long before HIV came about.

Protease inhibitors, etc.
