I saw it here in Utah on fox 13, pretty sickening if you ask me!! I just wonder how many sheep actually think that the terrorists are winning. I funny though they never seem to mention what is really in that bill. I did see that the senate has already approved the bill. Here is the link the the fox news article.

www.foxnews.com...

Has anybody seen where you can look at the full bill online in its entirety?

I may yet offer my personal opinion on this issue. What I did offer, however,
was a link to the Bill that seems to be the concern of this thread. As a matter of convenience to fellow members, I felt it would be a courtesy to do this to help foster "informed" discussion.

OK Gotcha. I'm a little slow.

Soooooo. What's this invasion of your privacy you are concerned about. I don't see how this particular bill has any effect on your personal freedoms. Are you willing to let the intelligence community eavesdrop on suspected terrorists?

Ah yes, The Straw Man arguement that the producers of this commercial want everyone to focus on!

We Must Protect Ourselves from The TERRORISTS!

Heaven forbid anyone do some research on thier own, lest they dicover the real reason the Administration is so eager to get the Senate version of this bill passed:

Telecom Immunity.

Rather than cave-in to the Administration's desire to protect its "friends" (and MAJOR political contributors) in the telecom industry by "Grandfathering-in" civil immunity from prosecution for those telecoms that aided the government in its, likely ILLEGAL, use of warrantless wiretaps (in violation of the FISA law governing wiretaps); The House of representatives decided to table their discussion of the Senate version, and recess.

The only thing that has expired is the Temporary enhancement to the government's surrveillence powers.

The FISA law, which allows the government to wiretap to their heart's content As long as it can convince a FISA judge to issue a Warrant!, is still in effect.

Which leaves one to wonder:

If what the involved Telecoms did at the government's behest was legal, why would they need immunity from prosecution?

Need it so desparately in fact, that the President of the United States would feel compelled to lobby for them?

On the other hand, if what they did was illegal, why should they be granted immunity?

Generally, society works better when those that break the laws of the society are punished for their bad acts; even if they claim, once caught, that they "were only following orders".

The commercial in question, from what I have seen, cleverly omits the reason why the House "failed to pass" the bill in question, and instead, raises the old bugaboo of "scheming terrorists".

Can someone please define "terrorist"?

Does it mean foreign or domestic? (They've been talking a lot about "home grown terrorists" recently, yet I haven't seen any)

Does it mean anyone who wants to kill Americans right now or people they think that may one day be influenced to potentially help plot to kill Americans sometime in the distant future? Does this include members of Al Qaeda only or people with "extreme views"? Please define "extreme views" as well. Does that include the 70% of Americans who are not with Bush on the Iraq war and therefore against him?

...

JUST SAY NO to the "Terrorist" surveillance act.

And about the telcom immunity... They had the DUTY to protect our RIGHTS as CITIZENS. They did not. To grant them immunity is to completely circumvent the checks and balances in this country.

jesus, it looks like someone made that commercial for them for free.

seriously. for a commercial on a seemingly important issue (to them), that's just embarrassing. They would have done better with the guy that made the Mentos commercials.

wow, that is SAD! But I think we all know how Neo Cons really work through media. Fox/CNN and many other channels designed to manipulated people and use them as hand puppet, which is why I refuse to watch tv, it's been a year and I feel like i'm growing up. I see life much different then I used to, seems like my eyes are opening.

Here's a link to the source watch page on the organization that produced the television commercial:
www.sourcewatch.org...

The government has usurped far too much power from the people over this new boogyman they created.

Saw the same commercial on CNN, they are airing it all over the news networks and often. Bush kept referencing to it as well during his blabbering newsconference yesterday. I would like to believe that the goverment would not spy on everyone and anyone but I am not as dumb as I look. Freedom of anything is slowing going away, oh well. Did you notice you can't comment on their Youtube video, don't they want to know what we think?

DefenseOfDemocracies

The group, run by Clifford May, a former communications director of the Republican National Committee, has not disclosed the names of its donors. May told NEWSWEEK that he launched the campaign for the express purpose of ratcheting up pressure on House Democrats. (The ads call on voters to contact specific Democratic members and demand that they vote "to keep us all safe.") "I think it's important for Democrats to hear from their constituents on this issue," May said. "This is a national security issue."

Newsweek: Terror Watch

This is all about the phone companies shaking in their boots about being sued for civil rights violations.
