Cellphone radiation affects cells in living humans

RADIATION from cellphones is too weak to heat biological tissue or break chemical bonds in cells, but the radio waves they emit may still affect cell behaviour.

"Our study suggests that it is possible that mobile phone radiation alters the expression of some proteins in living humans," says Dariusz Leszczynski at the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority, in Helsinki.

“It is possible that mobile phone radiation alters the expression of some proteins”Leszczynski exposed 10 female volunteers to radiation at 900 megahertz from GSM phones to simulate an hour-long phone call. He screened 580 different proteins in their skin cells and found that the numbers of two proteins were altered in all of the volunteers: one protein increased by 89 per cent, the other decreased by 32 per cent (BMC Genomics, DOI:

The full article about this study made by STUK can be found from here and its abstract from here.

The major cell phone manufacturers also conduct their own research about the effects of RF radiation on human beings, but there is little public information available of their real results... This is my conclusion after having discussed with some "insiders" who seem to have much more information than is being released to the press.

I always make any longer phone calls using a wired headset so that the phone remains either on the desk or in my breast pocket, and that's what I recommend to my friends as well. I don't like the feeling of my ear starting to feel hot - which really may happen during a sufficiently long call even if the phone will stay cool to the touch.

Perhaps I'm a bit paranoid, but I really don't find microwaving my sensitive body parts a very good idea.

....informative thread, thought to post some related-information here, versus starting a new one:

"New study links cell phone usage to cancer"

Now some scientists say there is a chance that talking on a mobile phone for as little as 10 minutes could trigger changes in the brain that are associated with cancer, according to a story published on Thursday by the The Daily Mail.

The article said that researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel discovered that exposure to even low levels of radiation from mobile handsets could interfere with how brain cells divide, thus causing tumors.

"Mobile Phones & Cancer - It's your call"

I must own up, right up front. I helped launch Mercury 1-2-1 mobile phones in the UK. I was chairman of the advertising and direct marketing agencies, and I sat on the company’s launch business committee.

We asked then, back in the early nineties, about the lawsuits filed in the USA over mobile phones and brain tumours to receive a curt, ‘‘Don’t ask’’ reply.

Also, my daughter died of a brain tumour in 2004, aged 26. It could well have been a complete coincidence that she seemed to live on her mobile phone. Certainly when I asked her surgeon what he thought might have caused her brain tumour, the first words he uttered were, ‘‘Well a lot of people think they are caused by mobile phones – but that’s a load of rubbish’’. He rather spoilt this emphatic answer when about five minutes later he said, ‘And anyway, when you get a tumour from a mobile phone it tends to be over one ear - Catherine’s tumour is not – it is in the left frontal lobe’.

Hello Everybody,

My first post. I am a student at Madison and wrote an article last spring(2011) on the subject of cell phone radiation. I wrote this for a class in the form of a research paper, maybe some of you will find it helpful or useful.

Google Docs Cell phone radiation

I also had this presentation that went along with it if pictures and a quick summary is more your style. There are some interesting pictures I have put in there that illustrate the increase in brain activity and effects on humans.

There are some powerful correlations about cell phones and cancer. Much evidence supports that when males keep cell phones in their front pockets their sperm count will lower and increase their chance of infertility.

If you have any questions let me know and I will try and help you out. Let me know what you think.
