A 4.8 quake is not a "SLAM". I don't know if I should have even replied but wow do they not still teach earth sciences in high school? If one is unclear about geology one could spend a half hour on usgs.gov and become less alarmist and more grounded in facts.

its not about being alarmist its about silliness - apparantly a 4.2 @ 2km`s MUST be a nuke test by iran and yet

earthquake.usgs.gov...

which is a 6 @ 6km`s and will be felt , but a bit of shaking and rumbling

But... weren't all the other earthquakes these latest days the same... 4.8.
That's quite a conincidence...

According to our friends at wiki an earthquake of that magnitude would bring the following:

Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises. Significant damage unlikely

Not exactly heavy duty...

i only made this thread to try and highlight the `OMG it must be a nuke` nature of the other one - `quakes happen all the time and everywhere

earthquake.usgs.gov...

thats was a mag 6 - and felt in a larger area ; but so many people including a mod or 2 are so `opinionated` about iran that well anything that shakes `must` be the smoking gun for a nuke

ask the residents in hawaii - they shake all the time and don`t test nukes

If there was a 4.8 quake where i lived in the U.K my house would crumble.

I am glad i live in the U.K !

Take care.

I gotcha! I like this board alot but there are a few veins of threads that make me want to puke. Deny ignorance? Sometimes it seems the opposite around here.

People in CA would sleep through that unless it was directly beneath their location... then it might knock a few things off the wall and scare the cat.

I assume the "SLAM" in the thread title was meant as sarcasm, given the recent thread about the Iran quake and proported nuke activity.

Eh.. How do earthquakes SLAM into China ?? Is it some kind of comet ?

Also 4.8 is way too low to bother. A few cows fall down, a shack here or there collapses! Nothing to write home about in this day and age of massive tsunamis and millions displaced.

Are you kidding me? 4.8 magnitude is not slamming anything.

I have been in a 5.0 and it was only like someone shaking the couch.
