Great thread

In my opinon, I would try and get to Ireland or to France (I'm in the South East). But, firstly, if you are located in a city - like me - then your first goal is to get out and get into the village/countryside.

Britain has the tightest gun laws in the world, so getting armed is difficult. Keep low and stay in the countryside. In fact, Wales will be a good place as well due to the numerous valleys and mountains that can provide shelter and food.

Indeed.
The Irish sea can be pretty tricky, so you would need a steady craft to travel across.

A few places I would choose are the Welsh valleys, the Scottish highlands or the NW of England, as I live in NE England if the SHTF I'd probably head W or NW away from the major cities.

It would be hard to avoid people in Britain to as its a small country with a pretty large population, I think safety in numbers would be wise to you there may be large groups roaming around looking to pick of the lone survivalist.

I understood that if the crisis is due to 2012. There would be major magnetic shift, so laptops bateries etc will probably not work and supposedly, the sun may not be shining much either so solar panels are out also. How about wind up torches.

A lot of people have the basic idea of heading north to scotland but as someone who live in the country i disagree.

The cities and towns are absolutely no different to anywhere else in the uk and the more barren parts of the country (which is generally where people would head) are extremely harsh and most definately not inhabitable.

My idea was to set up small to medium groups (5-15) around your local area and head south. A group of trusted people who are armed and physically fit (and ORGANISED) would be untouchable in situation x conditions.

We would then proceed to the english channel and get OUT of the country and onto the continent.

My two main points are,
1: Safety in numbers (but not so many that you become immobile as a group)
2:GET OUT, i dont understand why people are wanting to head to barren wastelands, you will not last.

You leave me and my wife on a coast line or near a river, we will be seeing you when you return weak sick and hungry. Our BOB equipment is every thing you will ever need for the first few weeks of a major situation going down.

get out of the UK via the channel? ................................ Hope you speak native French, because French mobs are going to just love and welcome an English invasion. NOT.

BUT at the end of the day, what you decide for you is good enough for me to say ce la vie.

My idea is not as farfetched as it may sound. Firstly i do speak fluent french. And also why would the french be running around in angry mobs any more so than the brittish?

The conditions in france are far better for survival than the conditions in this country, for a start the weather. Fair enough we can live in tents for a while but surviving the brittish winter in a tent in the wilderness is almost impossible. Ofcourse it can be done for a while but its really not ideal especially considering most people in this country havent even heard the word outdoors (exageration but you know what i mean)

And im not trying to be wide but.....what kind of BOB do you have? Typically they will last one person the first few days.

France does have its advantages:-

There is a very sizeable British ex-pat community throughout France, the size of the population is approximately the same as the UK but has three times the size of the land mass, the weather is generally warmer, its far more rural than the UK, easily survivable countryside, has a brilliant road system, good starting point to travel to 'other' countries.

France also has some disadvantages:-

Language barrier, lots of nuclear power stations, Gendamerie, open borders to 'other' countries, lots of the population do have guns for hunting.

The main disadvantage will be getting to France and of landing in France. It all would depend on what the situation X was.

Well Bon voyage!

The weather. ROFL. The weather. OK, you got me chuckling (I put another word here that is common in the UK and it censored it!) into my cola glass now. Well, dammit, then yes if the weathers going to get you down, fair point. Damn though, if the weather gets you down, what about catching/killing/sourcing your own food? thats really going to depress you...........

As to my BOB? its the dogs clappers mate. If I walked out my house tommorrow with it on my back and never came back, I'd be safe, warm and self contained. I lived hard routine once before. Have no worries about doing it again.

Hehe, well its alright for you Dan, you are used to wet, cold and windy weather, thats all it does up in Scotland. We in the south like to feel the sun on our backs.

If I could have my choice, it would be a nice South Pacific Island full of coconuts, palm trees, warm lagoon and grass skirt wearing women

PS: A bar would be too much to ask for, would'nt it?
