This indeed is very interesting. Coming from Sheffield we're surrounded but open countryside but I'm a little confused as to what people seem to
want to prepare for? Nuclear Attack? 2012?

It doesn't matter what you prepare for, Just prepare.
When the SHTF you've done all the hard work, time to bail and relax in country comfort.
At the moment I am clearing an area in a small wood which is quite tricky to get to, I shot some video and have some pics which i will be putting up
in the next couple of days.
I will be outlining some inherent dangers if you need to clear an overgrown wood for your camp.

But what is it that makes you think 'Blimey, I must prepare for what's about to happen' if you're unsure what IS about to happen?
I would like to think that if a bunch of people were posting threads about a possible armegeddon but based on different beliefs then I would be very
sceptic and come to the conclusion that a large percentage of those claims had no weight behind them. Therefore most of the posts were made by sheep.
- not literally of course - and just letting off steam / jumping on the bandwagon
I'm really interested in this and have been since the 'climate change' has been grabbing the headlines. Not the global warming version by the way.

With the rise in food and petrol/diesal prices I think something is going to go ping very soon.
The truck drivers have allready protested down in cornwall so if things keep increasing like they are i think there will be chaos soon to follow.

I'm actually really interested in this.
I'm a 27yr old female from Oxford.
I'm not prepared to be honest, but living in an isolated community, and working hard together to survive and live off the land seems a lot more
preferable to me than working in some crappy office, earning money to pay for some equally crappy flat. I enjoy hard, physical work (I was an
archaeologist) and have recently thinking about maybe doing a course in survival.

I'm in a similar frame of mind to you on that one. I got really interested in this in the late 90's but now we seem to be seeing the signs we were
told to look out for regarding all the natural disasters and the possibility of government officials knowing the truth. As you say, fuel and food
costs are now becoming big news in the western world. I ask myself, are WE deliberately being made to pay the price while the few with the
knowledge prepare for what is to come? (I still don't know what this IS by the way)

I tried to u2u you, but I can't untill I hit 20 posts... ANYWAY...
I've spent a good few hours on the internet searching for such groups in the south of England (in fact anywhere in England) and I came up trumps.
I'm not talking about leaving IF something goes wrong, rather, leaving now, in anticipation of it.
Can anyone help?

Aha.. another sleeper has awakened..
You are just reflecting the views that I was recently talking about..Working just to pay for going to work's sake..
Can anyone say pointless?
If you did..who would be getting rich off your education and hard work? You?
This is the view a lot of people are going to follow very soon..'Civilisation' has reached it's peak and I think our natural instincts are starting
to kick in.
Population growth levels CAN NOT BE SUSTAINED by working in offices, marketing shoes or selling mortgages etc..
REAL LIFE skills like sustainable, independent farming and natural energy HAVE to be re-learned..
I for one will NOT be relying on expensive GM produced poison to live when 'real' food runs out.Yukky.

Im so far south they play banjos round here
Oxford is quite a way up north isnt it?
There is some good spots for up there though, I'll get some coordinates and post them later, Not quite Oxford area but Its pretty close to you
allthough you might have to clear the ground as its a bit overgrown.
Im currently editing a video on camp preparation which will be up in a day or 2 which deals with making a good camp spot, Even if it is overgrown and
in the middle of nowhere.

yeah, Cheers for that.
Im also looking for ways to be able to make it up to the north maybe on foot or by bike.
Im also checking out maps and so forth, there is a very large forest near to me and I know it as alot to offer even if you have to lay low for a week
or 2 to start with.
Again all depends on the type of situation really, but Im fairly sure that I could make it and live for at least 3-4 weeks within this forest and not
be detected.

Also, this just came to mind... BAE in Barrow-In-Furness could very well be some kind of target, due to the fact the make
submarines there. It was bombed heavily in ww2, and I don't see a reason as to why it
wouldn't be a target again.
If there is fall-out, would this rule out the lake district?

Not to mention HM Naval Base at Clyde, 'Home of the RN Nuclear Fleet' and RN Armaments Depot at Coulport.

All this talk of pevailing winds and locations which are gonna get hit sounds a bit like the North Vs the South.
Besides which if there is a nuclear attack no-one apart will stand a cat in hells chance, prevailing winds or not unless we're tucked up in a bunker
for the next five years +.
I can't really see Nuclear war kicking off over here BUT the government in the UK should wise up and disentangle themselves from the US as much as
possible.
Being reliant on them is costing us and the more distance between us and the US administration and ours the better. I wouldn't mind if it would
benefit us but it doesn't cut much ice post-cold war.
Back in the cold war I could. But not now, the threats that make up SitX are different now I think.
The nations of the world have too much to lose to nuke each other back to the middle ages.
