Sukhoi Superjet100 closer to first flight

There seems to be saturation of capable planes in the circa 90 passanger airliner market. Therese the shiny new Bombardier CRJ700, the Embraer E-Jets, ACAC ARJ21 and not to mention the usual offerings from Boeing and Airbus.
Perhaps the superjet is just one too many. We all know that of all the companies Airbus and Boeing arent going to be the ones which back down.

Sukhoi is considering slipping delivery of the Superjet indefinitely. Only one aircraft has been produced so far, and first flight has been slipped into April, which puts them a minimum of 6 months behind schedule. Aeroflot was expected to take delivery of the first aircraft in November, with a second in December.

Update to the general market:

Previously Boeing scrapped the 737RS (Replacement Study) and went back to the drawing board as they were not happy with the leap they were making.

Now they are talking about re-engining the 737 as an option.

An avenue for Bombardier (and Embraer if they get their skates on) to gain significant traction in the lower range of the single aisle market?

Dont forget, one big difference between the duopoly and the rest is that Airbus“ and Boeings small aircraft usually have a much higher range.

and are also not in the RJ class so pay more taxes when used -the empty weight of the baby bus - the A318 i(and its boeing competitor the 737-600|)s nearly 40 tons , whereas the E-190 weighs in at 28 tons.

the regional jet is the one market airbus and boeing have little showing - the 737-600 line is open but not in production as they have no orders to be built , the airbus is slightly better with orders from air france and BA.

but between them they cannot match the E-series - which as of june 30 2009 had 1772 firm orders , with 819 options

source

www.embraer.com...

the main factor is cost - a fully loaded with all the options E-195 is less than 1/2 the cost of a basic A318/B737-600

www.airbus.com...

www.boeing.com...

even bombarier with the CRJ do alot better:

www.bombardier.com...

thats over 600 regional jets....

so you see Sukhoi want a slice of this , and the superjet , as long as it can deliver as promised , wants in.

Superjet is flying and looking very good!

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is designed to compete against the Embraer E-Jets and the Bombardier CRJ programs. Sukhoi claims the SSJ will have 10-15% lower operation costs than its Embraer or Bombardier counterparts for the price of $27.8 million, wich is a good advantage.

Also i think sukhoi built this aircraft for the needing market in the Midle East, and of course Russia who are in a need of a new modern medium range and low price aircraft.

According to Sukhoi first deliveries will begin in December, 2009.
Hope the best for this modern good looking new bird.

Actually they said today that delays of the engines from Powerjet are causing delays to the program. At least one jet is done except there are no engines for it.

Thank you! I guess it is the first time an aircraft is ready before an engine but i know how complicated an engine can be...
