Dark Vortices? (within light)

I just read an interesting article on PhysOrg and thought some people here might appreciate it.

The article talks about how a beam of light contained Dark vortices that are made up of brownian fractal partterns. What caught my attention was this statement

Infinite vortex lines, which account for about 73% of the dark vortices, percolate entirely through the light beam. The remaining 27% of the vortices form closed loops, which occur when a vortex line returns to its starting point within a small enough area.

And what caught my attention, as well as someone who commented on the article was that those approximate numbers are relevant to dark matter and dark energy.

Only about 4% of the total energy density in the universe (as inferred from gravitational effects) can be seen directly. About 22% is thought to be composed of dark matter. The remaining 74% is thought to consist of dark energy, an even stranger component, distributed diffusely in space.
