Castro steps down as Cuban leader.

The 81-year-old handed over power temporarily to his brother Raul in July 2006 when he underwent surgery and has not been seen in public since then.

Cuba's new parliament meets on Sunday to elect a new president in his place.

US President George W Bush said news of Mr Castro's retirement should herald a transition to democracy for Cuba.

I suppose it had to happen sooner or later, The old bugger is on his last legs. Still keeping control for 49 years is quite an impressive feat.

The Cuban missile crisis was a world shaping event, will with Castro out of the way a more pro american view begin to appear?

Will the mighty dollar open Cuba like my morning egg or will they say shove ya dollar where's me Rubals?
