I don't think its that it is controversial, I think that a lot of children whom are very interested in science watch the Discovery Channel and it is quite horrifying to see torture when your a kid. Usually you don't know how to take it and it can really mess up your mind. Most likely if that happens to a kid, they aren't going back to that channel for a while, so chances are they have their viewers at hand.

I'm 20 years old, and I wouldn't even enjoy watching that film. I know what the government does, I don't need to watch smut to figure it out its on the front page of the newspaper every day. We are in a war and we do really effed up sht in war, especially in 2008 with neo-nazis running the world. Let's not fund their movement further by giving them the media exposure that they want.

It is fear that is driving this war, it is fear that is keeping us in it, and it is fear that will keep our troops in the middle east until there is a one world government.

I think they are shooting themselves in the foot, because with a few minor edits (just some graphics and some non critical audio) they could release a version that while still mature, could air on that channel. Maybe later at night. I think the likely response and ratings would warrant that, if that's all they were concerned with. Me, I suspect other forces at play.

They never intended to air it. They said whatever they needed to say to get total rights to it. Once that contract was signed and rights were turned over they could do exactly what they set out to do; they suppressed it.

Don't fool yourselves, this was a suppression op form the get-go. Thankfully the internet was able to save the day once again and get this documentary out.

yes, but isn't that exactly what war is? If you have a soldier that wants to double think every move, he will be dead instantly. It's a double edged sword, but i mean, not everyone falls for it. if you don't fall for the brainwashing, you get stationed elsewhere, or reassigned, or perhaps they just send you anyways and mess with you.

and this is the other extreme. really, the truth is somewhere in the middle. ironically Laughing-Cat, you mention WWII. Many of the psychological techniques we have used via the CIA over the last 50 years has been thanks to Nazi experiments that we inherited during WWII.

To say that you have been through the military without having your mind tampered with is either painting you a liar or a fool. Of course the military changes your thought process. I bet before the military, you never had a natural instinct to remove your hat when entering buildings. Or when you stand up straight and put your body at attention even in civilian clothes.

The entire process of boot camp is designed to change the way your brain works. They control your diet, sleeping patterns, what you see, read and hear. Unless you are just a student going through ROTC or something, I don't see how you could deny any of that.

It's not many steps further to desensitize you to warfare. Once you rationalize killing during warfare, it opens up a whole can of mental worms.

It isn't double thinking that I have in mind; it is rather the deliberate programming of men and women so that they completely lose their moral agency. That is several steps down the slope from creating discipline and esprit de corps. My suspicion is that the USA deliberately uses psychologically disabling techniques upon its troops in order to program them to do the bidding of the immoral politicians in the White House and Congress.

Furthermore, I suspect it is because the politicians at the top know that these soldiers have been altered, damaged, and programmed for mayhem that Congress and the White House have signed into law the means whereby former servicemen and women can be denied the right to buy a gun if the proper psych.code is on their record. From afar it looks like intentional disarmament with prejudice -- either because the politicians know that these people's minds have been tampered with or perhaps something more nefarious such as a creeping disarmament of the U.S. citizenry...

Both sides exaggerate. Both sides spin the facts in their favor. Both sides lie constantly. Both sides believe they are justified in their lies because they are "right" and the other side is wrong. Nothing new under the sun on this Tuesday morning.

The truth from either side would be a breath of fresh air. There will always be those willing to aid the enemy with propaganda and there will always be those willing lie to create enemies. Both sides are wrong and the truth is in the middle where it always has been.

You watch this film? In it, there are plenty of interviews with the actual soldiers who committed these atrocities, and they explain that they can't really go against their fellow comrades, once in the situation. I understand this point. What they will respond to, however, is directive. That comes from above.
