As an American i AM opposed this, it looks to me like a land grab by the EU+US. The media in the US today made a 30 second mention of the independance, they showed a video of people celebrating by waving American and Albanian flags. It really kills me how they pawn it off as something good. Thankfully we have the internet to visit sites like this and international news to get the real story.

"In these days following the declaration of independence, Mercy Corps is monitoring and assessing the situation on the ground. We do not anticipate violence or humanitarian issues, but if any do arise, we are poised to quickly respond in coordination with local authorities, local community leaders and other international actors."

New Kosovo Flag

What a Great flag.

I mean can it be even more European?

In any case, I did not see this flags waving on the many photos on the streets of Pristina - there were Albanian flags, American flags, Slovenian flags. In any case, as you probably noticed, I do not agree with this indepedance. Many similar events will follow - only this time from certain countries of former Soviet Union.

The world will now stew over a slew of secessions, or perhaps the Russians will send their troops to Serbia to take back Kosovo.

I doubt the Russians and Serbians will do too much over the newly independent Kosova.

I expect they will use this opportunity to get Srpska in Bosnia to declare independence and then join Serbia.

We'll likely see Russia -- if in a tit for tat mood -- push for Ossetia's independence from Georgia (whilst carefully forgetting about Chechnya...).

I am especially interested to see what the U.S. American government does with the Republic of Lakota and all of the Native American populations that could now declare their independence. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
