Found this today, on alex jones board.

internet censorship in uk

As of December 31 last, all UK ISPs dutifully responded to Home Office minister Vernon Coaker’s request to ‘voluntarily’ sign up for the Cleanfeed system. Thus, as in China, the British have sheepishly agreed to have their Internet content, filtered, censored and where the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) or the Home Office decide blocked. This despite there being no legislation to support the Cleanfeed system.

Looks like we in the uk are going to get some version of what the chinese have to deal with. They are not saying whats going to be blocked, lets just hope its not this place, as i doubt they could block this, but you never know.

What do you guys think on this?

I think it won't be long until they try that in the U.S. It never ceases to amaze me, the level of repression descending upon us with seemingly no public reaction.

Is there public outcry? Any organized protests?

Yep, i think it may be harder for them in usa, with your first amendment, but us in europe, all throwing away our rights so fast.

I wonder if they brought in ip blocking into the uk, could we still use proxies from the usa, to access all the sites, as you lot have a free speech thing?

I'm sure they will sew up any loophole that would allow an ISP to not participate. Otherwise, you'd think there would be "alternative" ISPs popping up? I don't know much about all that.

They are already using child porn as their "foot in the door" here to get the population behind censoring the Internet.

This worries me. Are there any updates as to how this is going in the U.K.?

I hate to shoot the messanger but I think that if you read through the site carefully you will find that it is has a subtle pederast and possibly paedophile agenda. Though they argue a good case against internet censorship, they are arguing on the basis of preventing the censorship of "child erotica" at the very least. They do raise some interesting issues but these must be balanced by the fact that the internet has increased the dissemination of child pornography.

Censoring of a whole country is not good. It cannot be, who is gonna control those who control what the rest can see?

Thats a blatantly 1984 vision i just pooped there, and thats exactly what it is...

It says the original list was child porn sites, but that list has expanded. Surprise. Surprise. Gave them the inch and now they're going to just keep expanding that list.

Who isn't against child porn? What a great way to con the people into allowing their internet to be censored. Even a deranged criminal knows the best way to get through someone's door is with a smile and a nice con.

Its not exactly mass censoring when you can get the filter removed with one phone call to your ISP. State the facts.

As I said they do make some very valid points - but you do have to take what they say in the context of the entire site, not just this one article. They are addressing the issue of censorship true, but primarily they are claiming that it represents a "witch hunt" or "inquisition" against those people who access "child erotica". In other articles it also claims that the law unfairly treats the perpetrators of crimes against children, particularly those that would be classed as pederasty. They seem to wish to reclassify the age of consent and class such crimes as 'victimless'. I can see both sides, but a slippery slope comes with either option.

* WAR IS PEACE
* FREEDOM IS SLAVERY
* IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face--for ever." - George Orwell 1984

People! wake UP! Big Brother IS watching you. I remember a while back when we talked about the cameras with speakers in the UK, UK folks even said "why do you people in the us think this is such a big deal?" If no one fights for their rights, Big Brother has NO problem taking them away from you.
Fight no matter what, till your dying breath. Use whatever tactics will gain you your objective. Why, censorship happens right in front of your nose, perhaps when you are on your favorite web site. So, one must use Guerrilla Tactics sometimes. Read between the lines.

The reason that we in the UK are so incredulous about allegation that we are living in a police state overseen by Big Brother is because it could not be further from the truth. We have far greater problems. We have an ineffective, impotent and underfunded police force. We have parents who sit by blythly dependent on the nanny state while their children wreak havoc on the streets. What is more pertinent is that most of those who quote Orwell's 1984 entirely miss the point. Big Brother was never merely about cameras, it was about automated bureaucracy, about being reduced to a number and a commodity of the state. It is about the state of the mind, not the mind of the state.

Either way, this site that is warning of us of the threat of internet censorship is doing so because it wants child porn to be available. It is using our fears of censorship to push the pederast/paedophilia agenda. Read beyond the article posted and it is perfectly clear that this is the sole stance that this site is taking. In one article it is implied that most men would get an erection from looking at child erotica and therefore it is wrong to test for erectile reaction in order to assess paedophilliac tendencies. It implies that this reaction would be normal, it attempts to scare men into thinking that they may get an erection if they look at these kind of images. That an involuntary reaction could condemn them. This to me is scaremongering of the worst kind. It is attempting to normalise sexual relations with children.

I am a firm believer in listening to the message and not the messanger but in the interest of the suffering that the internet child pornography industry has inflicted and will continue to inflict I actually would rather have the censorship.
